Now the speed issue has been resolved and its now stable thought I would try the new wireless router today so if you dont hear from me for the next month (think yourselves lucky)
As I have the discs and the login and password DNS Server.Router Wan address Router LAN.......apart from me turning it on any other pitfalls I may encounter ?
Its an additional connection as you know so if I make a pigs ear of it I will just revert back to the wired router :fingers:
Well Im on and using the new router, password was a pig to get into thanks to the scribblings.
I can get into the system had to manually configure it.it has passed all the diagnostic tests but failed on the loopback test....I have no idea what this is anyone here know ?
What's the router, David?
Zyxel 660 Simon........
The final issue I have is to try and get it to accept the wireless network password.I have tried everything on this list but no luck I am at present in the system but cannot find where this is to be able to change it ....but we are getting there
No idea on that one, David.
Thanks Simon...going to try the system and maintainance page to try and find it :fingers:
Noticed in the Firewall WAN to Lan is blocked ? I see the Allow Asymmetrical Route is ticked :dunno:
Its OK Simon someone will be here soon .........evrything is working fine excpet for the laptops as I cant get the encryption key
Would it be easier to set a new encryption key for both?

This is it Simon

Is this as easy as its been so far ?setting it up was its just getting the wireless to accept the key
Seeing it doesn't help to know how to work it! ;D However, this might (http://support.digiweb.ie/questions/3771/Wireless+Setup+-+ZyXEL+P-660HW-T1). ;)
My pages are different Simon and no matter what I cant at the moment see how to get to the settings page shown here hmmmm
Got round to the correct page, different design and not the same layout but still a big no......try tommorw

There should be something called wireless settings, and the bit you're then looking for is probably called encryption.
I found the page and the encryption key 0x and then I think it was 25 numbers after so many attempts it just wouldnt have it I even copied and pasted the code in but it just kept rejecting it.
In the end I left it for another day ...not beaten
I wonder if I used the reset button wold this give me a better chance of success ?
Are you using the same type of encryption on both the router and laptop, David? Both WPA (or WPA2)?
To be honest Simon I installed the router (20 mins) which is fast for me.....no problems
All I did was turned the laptop on and it found the connection with no problems with my 3 wire I just put the encryption in and job done I know the former keeper of this changed it but the password he has given will not work and here started the problems....
Had a good root around in the routers settings though and learned a lot, where stats are and things I caould never find before in other router so it wasnt a complete waste of time.
I will crack it ;D
Right, so are you saying it's the router password to get in to change things that's causing the problem? In that case, a hard reset (with a pin in the pinhole) should sort that, and the default password will then be 1234. This may help:
http://www.speedguide.net/broadband-view.php?hw=17
No Simon,pay attention now. ;D ;D
I got into the router and changed the password no problem.
I set it to connect up with my ISP...no problem
I then got the laptop out and truened that on and it found the wireless signal from the router.
I then enterered the password for the wireless connection...................brick wall
After several attempts I had a look at the wireless LAN setup and could see on key 1 that there is a row of numbers and letters (about 25)
This is the problem it just wont accept the numbers to connect up with the laptop.
:o
Stalemate at the moment I have checked on the number etc and in the end to ensure no error I copied it and pasted it into the encrytion space on the laptop but it still would not recognise this particular code
Set a new password at the router, David, then try again at the lappy with that.
Thats the issue Rik there is nowhere in the router to change the password for the wirless lan thats the issue when I go to the page the only page I have is mac address !
David in the Wireless set up page on your router have you got a setting where you can set up the handling of new devices, I've got mine set as shown in the image below, yours could be set such that new stations aren't allowed.

So where are you getting the password from?
The wireless password came from the former owner thats where problem lies.
I cracked his password to get into the router.
So near yet so far.......................................my eyes adored you :music:
sorry couldnt resist that
If you can see the wireless password in the router interface, you should be able to change it, David.
Download the manual Here (http://www.zyxel.co.uk/web/support_download_list.php?indexflag=20040906173729&ModelIndexflags=0,420050117110934,420050117110916,420041221102511,420041221102520,420050117110858,420050831093216,420050831095441,420060420161739,420060420160946,420060816160116)
And or "paper clip" the bugger, start again from fresh. ;D
:iagree: Ted. ;D
 I have the manula here ;D
God knows what happened there I lost all service (no not my router) as I was on the other one.I did notice on the status page they were changing a switch today, whatever that is and to expect about 30 secs downtime.....well I went to Asda bought some print cartidges came home and it still would not connect.so I put the wirelss one back on and ...well it worked.
Computers. ::)
Computers indeed. ::)
Just checked the status page and I don't know what is going on with them but I lost service at the time they stated but I don't even know if it would have affected me...I'm on the wireless one now and all seems OK so I will see if I cant connect up with my laptop again.
I'm sure there are other things I could be doing with my life ;D ;D
One good thing it does not frighten me anymore ;D ;D
Chill man chill ;)
What do they say on the status page, David?
The only thing I have not tried as I did not think it needed was to use the disc for the wireless usb adaptor,as my machine is wireless anyway I didnt think this was needed.?

And no-one will pay the ransom :D
:stars:
Keep up Ray ;D
Im still trying to make contact with my laptop ;D
It right next to me
Now where is that passphase or key ???
Have you performed a factory-reset, David? I think that's the only way you'll resolve this.
This is where I mean
Can't you just enter a new key in the Key 1 field and hit apply? (Get rid of the WEP as soon as you can too...)

No I havnt but I have spent enought time on this one last thing that it looks like my only option
That or use my hub

No Rik no matter how many times I put in a new key and hit apply it reverts back to the old one ...
checking how to get shot of the wep WEP now.....
What are you putting in that field, David?
The row of numbers ect
Give me an example, can you?
David, can you turn security off, just to make sure you can actually connect. You can turn it back on later.
0x30786a657 and so on
I tried entering these on the laptop no joy

Do you mean firewall Ted
I just disabled the WEP and got connected to the router but not the net
What happens if you change the router from WEP to WPA?
I did mean the wireless security but you could try the firewall as well.
You really should be using WPA, rather than WEP, David, and if the router and laptop are not using the same type of security, it won't work.
On the case now have turned firewall off on the router now the other two......
Quote from: Simon on Aug 23, 2009, 17:18:39

Thanks Simon will check this out :thumb:
If I reset the router will this allow a new password to be entered ?
And will I need to reconfigure to the net ?
Fresh install of disc ?
It should save some of my time thats for sure ;D
Yes, yes, no need for a disc, just log in to the router from your browser.
:ithank: I may be gone sometime...................... :hehe:
Anyone got a paperclip ;D ;D
Yes.
I have a boxful if you want one
:bore:
What !!!!!
Ok that fixed the password issue :hewho: but the laptop although connected is showing that the PC is connected to the router but has no access to the internet .
Better check the obvious first I guess
Are the PC & laptop one and the same machine, David?
Not with you Rik ?
I have the Desktop....ethernet cable
Laptop have atm wireless
So, the laptop is saying the PC has no access to the 'net? What does the PC say?
I cant see it from here (network )
Here being the laptop? What happens if you try and access the router from the PC?
Here being the Desktop....I can access the router easily from here should I try with the laptop ?
You've lost me, David. Does the PC have access to the 'net? If so, does the lappy?
Sorry Rik
The Desktop has access to the net.
The laptop does not
Just tried and the laptop cant access the router
OK, let's go to basics for a moment. Connect it with a cable, does that work?
Yes
So it's purely the wireless link. Are you getting any kind of connection message on the lappy, can you see the router even if not connected to it?
The message on the lappy is (after it trying to repair itself) states there is a prblem with router /modem and to turn router off for 10 seconds to see if this fixes it.
Strange the 2 wire never gave any problems like this, although the router is good and very responsive
What are the wireless settings as seen from the desktop?
If the router is configured correctly including the wireless key password, then check to see if the wireless is on the laptop is turned on, is the wirelesszeroconfiguration service running?
Yes it is....I think the best thing to do is to start from scratch and set up a new wireless connection.......its almost impossible for you guyt to do this remotely.
Turn it all off first
:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Job done :great:  yes !!!!
I just rebooted both machines and also the router and they are all working well together..... :thnks: :ithank:
http://aaisp.blogspot.com/2009/08/info-maintenance-not-to-plan-reconnect.html
You see told you it wasnt me ...............for once
Nice one, David. How is the router performing, stat wise? compared to the old one?
:thnks: I dont know to be honest Ted this is the first router I have set up on my own,the one it replaced I wouldnt have known where to look but all this has certainly given me confidence to go in and have a good root around.
noise margin downstream: 20 db
output power upstream: 18 db
attenuation downstream: 40 db
Dont know if these are good or bad but I will have a read up
Learned a lot today,is there any other way to show stats other than a screenshot ?

Reading all this just completely exhausted me :stars: ;D

;D a bit slow loading here ?
That's AAISP for you, David.
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 2489 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 440 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1863 kbps
I am wondering now if this is the new router or the problems they had yesterday.......change it over first ?what do you reckon ? :dunno:
Can you post your router stats, David?
Will try
noise margin upstream: 23 db
output power downstream: 12 db
attenuation upstream: 27 db
carrier load: number of bits per symbol(tone)
noise margin downstream: 20 db
output power upstream: 18 db
attenuation downstream: 40 db
carrier load: number of bits per symbol(tone)
Is this what you need Rik ?
If its not I can get whatever now Im familiar with how these things work
[attachment deleted by admin]
Off to Tesco,s back soon :bye:
I think yesterday's problems have bumped your target NM up to 15db, David, which means you'll have lost about 2M in sync speed.
Will it recover itself or should I contact my support ?
Theoretically, it should recover itself, but it'll take a month and a half, and that's if it works. You may want to ask if AAISP can get it done manually.
:thnks: Sebby
Decided to send the test results over, unlucky really seeing as I was just enjoying about double that.......perhaps its a sign from the gods ;D
Yes, if it's working, leave well alone - I learnt that the hard way. :)
I don't think it was me Rik they had major disruption on Saturday and everyone got the Email robot your routers so one of those coincidences in life
If that is the cause, they should have no problem manually resetting your margin, David. :)
:fingers: Yes they had Major problems and admit they messed up big time ,still it happens thats life
My parents said the same thing when they saw me. ;D
I was so ugly my mum used to pull the pram along ;D
