Title: Bricked my router
Post by: D-Dan on Feb 06, 2010, 19:30:38
Hi all,

The story so far. I was trying to set up an OpenSim server on PC2 - but the routers firewall was causing problems, failing to open the necessary ports. I did some research and found many others with a similar problem (ST 585v6) so I decided on an upgrade to the latest firmware. Upgrade done, and now the router is in a constant boot/reboot cycle.

There are two fortunate events. One, I unplugged the phone line before the upgrade, so no errors have registered with BT. And two, I have two spare Netgears in the cupboard, so I'm not dead in the water. However, I like the Speedtouch, and want to bring it back to life.

Any ideas?

Steve. The only thing I've heard of is the "bootp" method, worth a google and it's used here I think http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=528630&r=8086679#r8086679

I had to use that method to perform the upgrade in the first place. I tried, but don't get the bootp signs from the router now.

I may try again tomorrow.

Have you tried a hard reset, i.e. hold the button in on the back using a paperclip or similar for about 10 seconds? I once had the same thing, and that sorted it. :fingers:

I have - but I'll try again. Haven't got around to it today (been busy getting my own OpenSim server working :)

Oh, and servicing the car.

Not to worry - I have a weeks holiday now after the hell that was January - so I have time.

It's back from the dead :)

Managed to get it to upgrade mode long enough to downgrade it :)

PS

Why don't Netgears have wall mounts - I had it cellotaped there for two days. At least now the ST is working again I can have it properly wall mounted.

PPS

The original problem wasn't a router problem at all - but a config problem with OpenSim - also fixed :):):)
