I'm trying to install java on a friends new windows 7 operating system.
I've never seen before two program files folders. This one has program file folder and programfiles (86)
She seems to have 6a 324bt internet explorer installed but when I go to download java it states it's a 32 bit browser
I can download the installer but it won't inst all.
I tried firefox browser but got the same response.
Java does not show up in internet options either as an ADDON or in advanced options
It doesn't show in control panel either
Have you started from http://www.java.com/en/ ?
If she has something strange link 64bit explorer (although you seem to note it's 32bit) this page (http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml) page has a "verify browser" link to help tell you which one to install.
The 2 program folders are how Windows 7 64bit works to run both 32bit and 64bit programs. 32bit programs go in the x86 folder, and 64bit programs go in the normal one. [edit] The X86 refers to the old type of chips, and to make it even more coplicated, 64bit is called x86-64 or x64. Windows should do this for you automatically when you click install, just leave it as it is.

Been there seen it done it. Still java won't install.
What's the error message you're getting from the installer? Lona.
If she's running a 64 bit browser, she'll need the 64 bit version of Java, and the same match with 32 Bit.
Even though I run the 64 Bit OS, I recommend against using a 64 Bit browser for the moment, mainly because Apple haven't released a 64 Bit version of Quicktime for Windows, which unfortunately cripples the web experience.
