QuoteApple has announced that its iPad tablet computer will go on sale in nine countries outside the US on 28 May.
Maybe the next iPhone will be called the iPad lite?
Sounds like the name of a sanitary product.

Anyone pre-ordering tomorrow then?
Sue's just hidden my credit card. ;D
I think I'll wait, the price will come down in the future as the spec improves but tomorrow's another day.
And there will be a new and higher spec model to attract us. :)

Yep, 16GB Wifi :thumb:
I would like one, but can't justify the price :(
It never stopped Sebby. ;D
Trouble is folks if you are willing to pay these prices Jobs will just keep hiking the price for the next version.
Hold off, make Apple think they've come out with a turkey and the price will drop.
But I think the cost of the iphone has fallen even with spec increases, presumably this relates to the reduction in manufacturing costs as the product matures, although Jobs claims the iPad is being sold at a rocket bottom price, time will tell. We are paying a lot more in the UK for the iPad than in the US,the reason Jobs gave was due to the cost of doing business in the UK.
Why is it that companies tell us that, and the politicians tell us the opposite?
Pity the poor American billionaire and his company that is barely getting by NOT
;D
They all say the same. I liked Adobe's comment best, something to the effect that UK customers preferred to have stable pricing than a system which reflected the current exchange rate. They didn't ask me about that.
Jobs reply when asked about UK pricing was to state that 17.5% VAT is added automatically where as in the US,sales tax is not applied uniformly therefore US prices are without sales tax. Still it costs us $40 more for the basic 16Gb wifi. The only good news was the Germans are paying more due to a copyright levy on new computers.
Shame it's not the French.
HOW much wont be ordering one of those.
I registered the domain I use for my main e-mail through an American company (as I wanted a .com) as it was far cheaper thanks to the exchange rate than it would have been to register through a UK registrar.
UK iPad prices: another great rip-off
Apple has announced the UK prices for its iPad tablet, and once again British buyers are being forced to pay a hefty premium. It also appears that customers who pay for the 3G models will get no discount on the hardware, even when they pay for expensive monthly tariffs. The cheapest iPad, the 16GB Wi-Fi-only model, will cost £429 inc VAT. That same model is on sale in the US for $499, which is only £340 at today's exchange rate.

Apple have done a few things recently that have convinced me never to buy one of their products. In particular, the latest round of restrictions in their license agreement preventing anyone developing software on none-Apple machines (which is why Adobe are so critical lately, since it kills cross compiled flash applications dead in the water).
MS may be an undesirable bunch of idiots hell bent on world domination, but at least they give the world a chance to try. Apple lock the world out if they don't work their way.
Now, back to grub to configure Ubuntu as the default OS again.

Not forgetting you have to add 0-11.5% sales tax on to the US price depending on which US State you live in. It still dearer here but not as big a rip off as their headline implies
Has anyone else pre-ordered? :out:
We're all waiting to see how you get on.
Either the date has slipped or all the available stock for the 28th has gone. Pre-orders today are now due 7th June.
From a survey, it looks like Apple may have trouble selling iPads in the UK initially. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2010/05/12/ipad_british_consumer_reactions/
I would agree my thoughts about the iPad entirely. I don't need it due to the overlap with other devices but I need to see one and use it.Then when the price comes down with v2 I can make a decision with some knowledge and less ignorance.
I bet Sebby buys one. ;D
Just one >:D
Or two. ;D
I guess with a moving wallpaper it would make a great tray
Will it Blend ?

Love those videos, the glowsticks one was particularly impressive.
I'm thinking about getting an iPad. It all depends how many clients request iPad version of their sites.
Still think the prices are to high thou.
That's Apple for you. :(
I really can't fault the iPad that much. It's annoying Apple delayed the OS4 update (multi-tasking, etc) for the iPad, and it will no doubt be 10x better with the update. But for it's exactly what Apple said it would be. I can read books and watch films when travelling, browse from the couch, and many other things which simply are too frustrating with an iPhone and too inconvenient to use a laptop.

I can do that too! On my Imac, on my TV and with a book, technology hey ;)
If you're taking an iMac out when travelling, presumably with a fairly large battery or generator, then I'm impressed. :P But I get your point, all possible without an iPad, but it's more convenient to have an all in one device.

;D No I have my iMac bolted to the front of my Wheelchair with a small generator hooked up via the wheels ;D I like the idea of the iPad but Jobs has broken it without flash support, I guess I don't like being told what I can't have on my machines, I never missed flash on my iPhone because I only browse a very small number of sites but for a true rich media experience I would want flash tbh. Also the Jobs grip on apps is getting to be downright weird. Not saying I want an app with breasts in it, but why block erotic content when you could surf for it, is Apples CEO a puritan? I think Apple will do better when he steps down thats just how I see it.
I may look at an iPad (that so much sounds like something incontinent people use) when V2 comes along but also a small laptop resting on my legs works well. Holding a 1.5lb electronic tea tray till your arms quake to get the right viewing angle seems to me to be missing the point. But I would be interested to see what you think of it in a month or so.

Ah, so that's why we've had reports of a mad bloke speeding up and down the road in a wheelchair, yelling, "CHARGE!!" ;D
:groan:
I'll second that. ;D
