Nearly Tuesday - got my router set up with all the settings.. when will I go life on Tuesday :)
Before 6pm, Diss. Normally, with a migration, it happens in the small hours, but with a new connection, there's physical work to be done at the exchange, so it's likely to be later.
You could be lucky though, they could dispatch the Openreach engineer to connect you to The Matrix the ADSL network today
;D
Cue the music...
You think that's air you're breathing now?
Time to give my favourite sci-fi trilogy another outing soon I think.

If it is, it's not working too well. :)
I'm not lucky, no connection yet :( Just to check, it's a wireless router, so I don't need to connect an ethernet cable to set it up do I? Went into Netgear admin, entered all my settings and it's showing on my Mac airport.
Sounds OK Diss.
Tina
Hang on in there! Things will unfold gradually over the next 24 hours and all will be fine. Then you will be part of a superb IDNet set up, it will all be sorted within 24 hours ;)

(http://www.speedtest.net/result/818147013.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Still better. :)
:)x
are we all very jealous? Don't people normally gets those stats?
Your upstream is about average for ADSL2+, Tina - even I get it. It's the downstream that we're all drooling over.
what is ADSL +2 ?
The service you're connected to, Tina, 'up to 24Mb'. ADSL1 is the 'up to 8M' service, and before that we had the fixed DSL services at 512k, 1M or 2M.
ah now I get it. Are most people on ADSL2 + now?
No, it's totally dependent on BT equipping exchanges, and they haven't got around to most yet. :(
ohh so I *am* lucky :D
Me too, but I'm the only person on the staff whose exchange has been upgraded, which gives you a rough idea of the 'exclusivity' of ADSL2+.
wow! So that's why my stats are so good? Cos it's ADSL 2+?
Mine has, but I didn't go for it, as it's proven to be unstable in some cases.
I didn't know I had gone for it - just put in the order :)
Quote from: Simon on May 18, 2010, 10:31:23

I didn't realise that. You might as well go for it, as if it doesn't work out, you can be remodulated to ASDSL1, but retain the u/s gain and bandwidth.
Quote from: Tina on May 18, 2010, 10:32:29

New orders on upgraded exchanges are automatically placed for the fastest service.
ohhh i soo love the Derby exchange :)
;D
Wait till you know when you're going to get fibre. :)
well I tried to check but it's said ADSL was in progress, but Derby isn't on that list someone posted anyhow
Wait till December, then. I'm due to get fibre, so I'll post my stats.
Then i *will* be v jealous
I'm happy as I am, Rik, and I don't think I would benefit that much, due to my distance from the exchange (about 2 miles).
fttc is a load of rubbish, bring back dialup
We're arranging it specially for your new house, Adam, at 300 baud.

You're going a dongling? :o
I am dangling my dongle right now have a t-mobile with 3gb usage for £10 a month.
I always know when you're dangling. ;)
oh dear, and how do u know that?
Your IP address changes. :)
you cant see my ip address.
We can.
Smart arse!!!! Why do u need peoples ip address?
In case you do something naughty, and the police need to identify your connection.
They're logged against every post in the event of legal action.
so how do u trace a mobile bb connection on pay as you go? which isnt registered?
That's for the phone company to do, Adam. All we can do, if demanded by a court order, is provide the time, date and IP address. The ISP concerned does the rest.

If you still have the phone and sim in use, they can locate the area you are in.
NP. If you can get past my security. ;)

Yes Glenn maybe but they cant pin point your accurate postion, plus im on the move alot, hiding from the crime left behind.
Triangulating on your phone signal will put it down to a few metres http://www.traceamobile.co.uk/faq.php
is this the same for a mobile broadband signal? Plus when its off it cant be traced
All the time it is polling the base stations a phone or dongle can be located. If your turn off the device, only the last know position will be available.
They'll never find me lol he says
