Orange has been forced to admit rival operator Three has the widest 3G network coverage by geographical area, after a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority.
Three's parent Hutchison disputed the accuracy of an Orange advert, which claimed its network "covers more people in the UK than any other UK operator".
Hutchison said its network covered more people, while Orange maintains its does. But the ASA said Orange's data was "calculated based on a marriage of in-house tools and recognised public domain population to location information and that the claim was capable of objective substantiation".

Late this year, into next year, they can both claim to have the widest coverage, along with T-Mobile.
Ironinc as Hutchinson used to be the parent company of Orange

Ironic as Hutchinson used to be the parent company of Orange
The company's name is Hutchison (one N not two) Wampoa and they used to run the Rabbit "Payphone in your Pocket" network. Wags have suggested that their GSM network was called Orange as the Rabbit was a lemon.

Orange is now owned by France Telecom. One2One is was bought by Deutsche Telecom and renamed T-Mobile. Orange and T-Mobile are set to merge later this year.
