Got a Belkin F5D8636-4 a few days ago due to losing confidence in Netgear. It works great, really nice sync speeds and so on, but the stupid thing keeps crashing. I'll be watching youtube or iplayer and then I lose my internet connection. The only way of fixing it each time is by disconnecting the power cable for a few seconds and reconnecting it. Has anyone else had similar issues with this or other models of Belkin?
Thanks.
Is this via Wifi
Both. I have one wired computer and 3, sometimes 4 wireless devices connected. The crashes occur on both. It seems to happen once a day normally.
Checked firmware, it's up to date.
Reason I ask here is because if there is a history of similar problems with this or similar Belkin router I will cut my losses and get something else.
I think if you can't solve it by giving each device a static IP I'd move on, you could try a BT 2700HGV if your not desperate for UPNP
My mate says he uses a Draytek Vigor 2710N. I've never heard of it before, apparently it's a low end business router and is stable as a rock. Have you heard of this router?
I have heard of it and Draytek are well regarded, I use their Vigor 120 modem which is very stable as well. It's not cheap though when compared to £15 for a BT2700HGV
Just bought a couple of Draytek 2820's to setup another link to a remote office and I'm impressed so far. :)
Got those mainly for the dual WAN ( ADSL/Ethernet ) interfaces but the configuration interface is pretty good and they seem to run nice and cool. As you say Steve, Draytek's are not cheap but they do seem to be good quality.
Is the router losing sync, Klipp, or merely locking up? If the latter, return it as faulty.
It's locking up Rik. Can't ping the router or access its GUI. All the lights on the front stop flickering. The reset button on the back becomes unresponsive. Shame because while it works it's supurb.
The Belkin router I had, failed after a few minutes of use, it only gave out 1 169.xxx.xxx.xxx DHCP IP address. It confussed the hell out of the chap in PC World when I tried to explain it to him.

Returns time I'm afraid. Personally, I'm not too keen on Belkin routers, we see some bad stories, like Glenn's, on them. Try a Speedtouch.
Well PC World refunded my 60 quid, resentfully. They looked unimpressed when I told them I don't want a replacement because I'd bought a different router from someone else LOL.
PC World are always resentful, even when you're buying from them. ;D
That's only because half of them don't know what they are doing.
And the other half know how to sell extended warranties and little else. :)
DSG! Say no more!
:zip: ;D
What have VW gearboxes got to do with it? ;D
