Title: Router/exchange question
Post by: dumdum on Aug 28, 2010, 10:39:08
Hi all

A family member decided to plug the phone directly into the main BT socket rather than through the filter   :bawl: , in the process dropping our downstream speed from around 13000kbps to 500.  I have corrected the set-up and rebooted the router but it still shows the same slow connection.

Will the connection speed get back to normal of its own accord or does the exchange now think we have a much slower connection as standard, i.e. would I need to get support to resolve the issue?

Thanks

dumdum

It will recover in a few hours up to a maximum of five days. BT moves in mysterious ways when it comes to profiles. :(

That assumes you mean throughput speed. If you're talking about sync speed, we need to do some digging.

Thanks for such a quick reply Rik.  Yes it's through speed I was talking about, I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to start looking re: sync speeds... :red:

Funny how speed profiles can go down quickly but take much longer to increase.

It makes life easier for BT, less processing time required on the profile. Hopefully, you'll be at the short end of the scale, though, you should for a big change.
