I know my dads still within his 10 day line train but I ask because he been on 8128k / 7150 getting 6.9Mbps 24/7 but today when there is extreme weather conditions and he is getting 1.2Mbps - his sync is still 8128k ... ive told him to use the BT tester which might reveal the lower profile if its line training but I was under the impression that if a line was healthy enough (i.e. can take 8128k/7150 no problems) then there wouldnt be any/much traiining going on as was the case with my ADSLmax connection...didnt bump once
anyway, has there been any logged issues or speed decreases?
Ive told him theres nothing we can do until 10 days are over (which is this Saturday I believe)
EDIT: he done BT tester and it showed 7000 profile with speed of 1.8Mbps...?? can this still be the training? im not sure

None that I know of. The training period exists for ADSL2+ and Max, and with both, it has no real meaning, DLM will kick in as it sees the need. Can you get the error stats from the router? Weather may have an impact in several ways: lightning will produce electrical noise, rain may enter a cable joint and high winds can cause overhead cables to rub and degrade, finally, it can cause mains power surges.
A BT test would tell us if his profile has been hit.

yeah BT are experiencing problems caused by the freak weather conditions - it doesnt matter where you live you probably are affected as there have been several outages/problems up and down the country in both england and scotland
everyone appears to be getting upto 1.8Mps (on 8Mb lines) so its obvious some links have been taken out somewhere - BT are pretty quick and will have this resolved in 24 hours (i hope hehe - usually do) - unfortunately unless your LLu you probably have been hit - this is something we have to expect due to where we live (bad weather) and has nothing to do with IDnet or any other ISP (it would have happened with any IPstream ISP too)
just sit tight people and if not sorted within 24 hours THEN you have reason to get mad with BT hehehe

Stepney Green is, of course the location of last week's planned engineering works which were going to take down every ADSL user in the country, so a problem there will likely affect every user. Lines seem to be showing massive packet loss.

Yep, when IDNet take control of my line might see about getting that NTE5 fitted and sticking an iPlate in to see if I can get any more speed out of it as if I can get 5 or 6 megs I might hold off fibre.
Well something happened this morning at 4am with my 10 min downtime..
I now have my lower, maybe more lower, pings back ;D
This morning the BT speed tester was giving these slightly odd results.
Download speed - 5600 Kbps
DSL Connection Rate - 12752 Kbps
IP Profile - 5500 Kbps
Upload speed - 719 Kbps
Upstream IP profile - 1104 Kbps
Less than a minute after the end of that test my router at least agreed with connection rate:
Up speed - 12755000
Down speed - 1106000
SNR (down) - 15
Loop Att - 29
Whatever the problem, BT still don't seem to have fixed the speed tester. In fact, the results seem even more silly now.
Just now it told me:
Download speed - 8251 Kbps
DSL Connection Rate - 3456 Kbps
IP Profile - 5000 Kbps
Upload speed - 714 Kbps
Upstream IP profile - 448 Kbps
less than a minute later my router was telling me:
Up speed - 12755000
Down speed - 1106000
SNR (down) - 14
Loop Att - 29
So according to the bt tester, I was downloading more than twice as fast as my connection speed! Meanwhile, my router stats hadn't changed all day.

You lot don't know how good you've got it.
I'm only just back up to a profile of 750 from 250 after a weekend of instability.
I came home to see two Openreach vans fiddling with the second closest cabinet so I'm guessing a lot of the problems are being caused by them doing preparatory work for FTTC.
I hope so anyway!
I actually had another bout of packet loss this evening, but that might be TBC (Typical BT Congestion):
