Title: T-Mobile release Android 2.2 (Froyo) for the Desire
Post by: Fox on Sep 18, 2010, 19:44:14
T-Mobile have finally got around to updating the Desire (those of us with unbranded phones have had it for a while). It is available as an over the air update (wifi recommended) and takes about 10 minutes to complete.

My T-Mobile Pulse is still running 1.5 and is unlikely to ever be updated - although it's not all bad as it does everything I need and is pretty darned stable :)

You can update the pulse from the t-mobile website to 2.1 as the source code is available to download

Go to http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=home&cat=SOFTWAREDOWNLOADS   and click the android tab

Is there much branding on the update?

Oooooh, thanks for that - I'll have a look at what's new :)

As far as I know there is a T-Mobile splash screen at start up and a voicemail app and that seems to be it for T-Mobiles messing with 2.2. I unbranded my phone some time ago using the generic HTC 2.1 ROM so got the 2.2 OTA update from HTC rather than T-Mob.

There's no branding as such in the update, splash screen aside, but it's interesting to note that the stock 2.2 update from HTC is about 25MB (So I'm told) and the T-Mobile 2.2 update is over 80MB.

Most of which I'm sure is all the new apps/widgets/programs (call them what you want) that's now appeared on my Desire.

The stock HTC 2.1 to 2.2 is about 78MB you may be thinking of the 2.10.405.2 update to 2.1 which included a new radio and various bootloader and kernal updates, that was about 25MB.

My desire on Orange asked me to update to 2.1 a couple hours ago. 27mb iirc. No idea what's changed .

I assume Orange will offer 2.2 at some point in the future.

One nice addition in Froyo is the Wifi Hotspot app, which, reasonably enough, makes your Desire a wifi hotspot - so when BT deletes IDNET's configuration  ::), you can get back online without faffing around with USB wires or bluetooth  :thumb:

Works for me on Vodafone  ;D

It's what I used myself, but as I'm on the edge of a 'cell' the signal wasn't too good, OK as a fallback though.
