Title: Advice on: Buffalo AirStation HighPower ADSL Router
Post by: davej99 on Oct 27, 2010, 23:19:56
Does anyone have any thoughts on the merits of the Buffalo AirStation WBMR-HP-GN HighPower ADSL Wireless router. Here for example. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buffalo-AirStation-HighPower-Internet-Connections/dp/B002LFVUTM/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1288211280&sr=1-5)

Never seen one, but does sound interesting. Download the manual here.

The blurb says it's wireless-n, but the spec only mentions wireless-g... could be a simple failure to update the advert, but could be draft-n so worth checking before shelling out the hard-earned.

Its definitely g but using more than one channel. Do not know if it is widely compatible. Broadcom chipset.

Why is it so hard to get a decent ADSL modem.

Any recommendations, Bill?

Not specific models, too many variables.

But the "domestic" routers (eg Belkin, Netgear etc) are largely built down to a price rather than up to a spec. In my opinion, it's best to look at the Home/Office ranges, they're usually better made/designed but of course, cost a bit more (say £60 and up).

I had a 3Com which I was very happy with, but it didn't have a WAN port so couldn't use it on FTTC... it didn't have wireless-n either, which wouldn't have helped.

I've been using a Draytek Vigor 2710n for just over 2 months, Dave, I've had no problems with it and it's maintained a solid connection apart from the BT troubles recently, they're not cheap mine cost me just over £100.

Thanks, Ray. Can I ask where you sourced the 2710?

I bought mine from dabs.com mainly because I had a £10 off voucher from them at the time, so got it for £107 with free delivery.

Thanks Ray.

On a general note I found this list (http://adsl24.co.uk/support/adsl2plus/) of routers/chipsets helpful.

Economies of scale, I guess.
