heres a puzzler for me,just cant sort it  again.
how to get a link to open in a new tab.have this selected in Options but it opens in the same page
I also have the Tab mix plus add on but cant find it in there
Try disabling the addon for starters, Baz, it works for me, so I'd rule out the addon before looking at anything else.
no that hasnt worked. I wonder if its because I have it set to open in new tab with a center click which does work
also on another FF issue, I thought that there was a 'last session' feature in FF.Cant find it now
???
Doesn't ring any bells with me, Baz.

Firefox > Tools > Options > " When Firefox starts" > Show my windows and tabs from last time
Thanks, Dorset. I like it to start blank and let me decide where I want to go. :)
I use mouse gestures and a few other addons. I then set "middle mouse button" to open up in a new tab. So with clicking mouse 1 or 2, I can decide if I want a new tab or now. :thumb:
I loathe Firefox and its behaviour especially the utterly useless tab system which does not alter with your settings choice.
The whole point of tabs is to be able to have them open a new tab when a new link/page is called, Firefox just opens links in the same tab every time.
I only keep FF to check for compliance on forums after making changes to content, I would never use it at all otherwise.

tried that Dorset its not what I want as I too like a blank page when opening.I had an option to 'Restore Last session' once in FF which did just that but thinking now it may have been only after a crash of FF or might be available with an add on that i had.

The "open new windows in a new tab instead" in options, and the Tab Mix Plus option you show, are designed to affect the behaviour of links which have been coded to open in a new window. They force such links to open in a new tab instead of a new window. Those options have no effect on normal links.
The only single-click way to open a normal link in a new tab instead of in the same tab, is to middle click it, as you are doing. I too always middle click links.

Type
about:config in your address bar and hit Enter. Acknowledge the warning, then search for
browser.sessionstore. You'll have several options, one of which is
resume_from_crash, and one is
resume_session_once. If you want your sessions restored, set them both to
True (double click to change). Restart Firefox, and hopefully that will do it.
no didnt make any difference Simon but ive found it now thanks all.
Its part of the Tab mix plus add on and a box was ticked that shouldnt have been.
if you use this add on the part I mean is in Session>'Use Firefox's built in Session Restore feature'
un tick that then make adjustments to the other items to your liking and then you get an extra menu item in Tools list in FF.Click on that if you get a crash or even close by mistake and it opens the session you want
