I'm getting a bit bored with PC Pro and looking for a replacement. Recommendations anyone?
Hi Rik, I subscribe to Computeractive which I find interesting for my level of PC knowledge.8)
Thanks, Wilf.
Talking of PC Pro, I just got the July edition. These cover dates are getting plain daft!
Anyway, Watchdog actually criticised Evesham - I nearly choked on my sandwich! :o
LOL, when I read that I was expecting to see your name at the end of the article. I think Evesham got off lightly in the case they covered in the magazine. By the way I used to subscribe to Personal Computer World (PCW) but it was so similar to PCPro it wasn't sensible to subscribe to both at the same time.
Rob.

I think they got off very lightly, Rob, the repaired machine wasn't 'fit for purpose' as originally sold. It did highlight how bad Evesham can be, though.
I used to take PCW years go, but moved on. Itchy feet are upon me once more. :)
I have to say that I've finally settled on Micro Mart. No dodgy coverdisks, a fraction of the price (£1.99), weekly instead of monthly, and generally a good variety of interesting articles, not to mention that it's largely OS independant, catering for Windows, Linux, Amiga, C64, Mac etc.
Oh, and one of their writers hates Norton, which IMHO shows damn good judgement ;)

How true. :) Thanks...
custompc is interesting at first..until you realise most reviews are almost prechosen...a bit too comercial for me
That's the problem I'm finding with all the mags these days, they have more attention on their advertisers than their readers. :(
Hi
Have a look at WebUser mag. I think its worth a look. I have subscribed to PcPro from Issue 11.
Are you finding PC Pro is 'dropping off' a bit, or is just my jaundiced eye?
I think its changed Editors recently (past year) I find it still ok. A list is useful.
Even the A list seems to have gone off to me, some of their choices I would definitely disagree with, Mesh computers for example. They obviously don't look in the Mesh users forum. :(
I would not buy from Mesh. I have good mate that built my PC. I just paid for it!! ::) Now out of date (compard to your new one)
My new one is but a twinkle in the eye of a Scan technician as yet. :)
I have mixed opinions on their A-list. Some of it, like the digital camaras and DVD writer, I agree with. When it comes to the actual complete systems, it's clear Evesham pay plenty of advertsing!
You forgot Mesh, Lance. ;)
I've been with PCPro since issue 12 and still enjoy its more serious and informative approach. I also subscribe to Custom PC and have done since issue 1. Its a bit more lighthearted but is still fairly informative in its revues and tutorials.

I know what you mean Rik...think they've freshened up the lead writers line-up a few months back and Dick Pountain and Jon Honeyball are my first articles read every month...frankly I've just not found anything on the subject that does it better.
Re: the A-List...it was this that caused my laptop SNAFU so no comment on that. Never ever, ever take one observation as gospel, even from a source you thought you trusted ! Lesson learned !

I have to agree 100% with that!

There I have to agree.

There I
have to agree! If it's not Evesham it's Mesh!!
