....this morning when trying to use Internet Explorer :swoon: all my favourites are opening in Firefox.
click on a favourite and FF opens and takes me to the site :dunno:
also on a different problem, tried to do a system restore last week and got a message saying it could not be restored, tried another point and got the same. whats that about :dunno:
Has "default browser" been set to FF instead of IE?
As to the restore, check your settings are correct, Baz, ie is the OS drive being monitored?

daft question but how do you check. using XP in control panel/add or remove programs/set program access and defaults it opens with the custom button selected and that shows Use my current web browser.

Open IE, Baz and go to Tools > Internet options > Programs. About halfway down, it tells you if IE is not the default browser and gives you an option to make it the default.
For the system restore, right click My Computer > Properties > System Restore. You'll see there which drives are being monitored.
no dont see that Rik, theres a tick box to check its the default but thats not ticked. strange thing is its just started to happen today, that I can remember.

If you want IE as the default, then, just check the box, Baz.
If C is being monitored, but the restore points won't work, it suggests corruption or malware. I'd turn off monitoring, which will clear the existing restore points, run a full virus and malware scan, then turn it back on. Of course, if you need to get back to one of those restore points, that may not be an ideal solution. If that is the case, all you can do is successively try the next oldest point until you find one that works.
Is it possible that System Restore has been turned off.?

well after looking into this I found that for some reason IE was version 6 :dunno: :dunno: so I downloaded v7,which didnt work then tried v8 which does.
sounds odd I know but all I can think of is a recent problem I had with a message from NOD32 which I had to get in touch with their support and they couldnt sort it so suggested I repair windows,thats all ive done recently so its all I can put it down to.
seems like somehow version 7 of IE was removed at the repair and it reverted back to v6.does this make sense, I dont know.
so im just on trying it now,dont use IE much now but need it some times
It makes sense, Baz, if your XP disk is relatively old, which it will be. I thought, though, that repair was intelligent enough not to overwrite newer files, but perhaps it goes right back to the original installation.

Its not meant to, but I think in the past this has happened, they do say to re-run MS update after doing such a repair just in case.
Depends what parts are damaged I believe.
TBH though I tend to favour completely scrubbing it, reinstalling and re patching so you can be sure all the libray versions are consistent and it will not cause you issues down the line.
