Is the monitor lead plugged inot the right socket?  There might be a graphics card and the lead is plugged into the mobo one.

Also, check the old monitor with the new machine or vice versa, that will establish if you have been supplied with a dud monitor.

Are you using the supplied video cable that came with the monitor, not all monitors work with all cables? My Harzo monitor only works with a DVI-Dual cable for instance.

Yep. There is DV-I and DV-A. Some monitors are not compatible with the other (one is analogue and one is digital).

Does the PC give a bios beep on boot up? What PC is it, where was it purchased? What was included (monitor or just base unit)?

Not easy if you cant see anything... ;) Make sure its actually booting, like has been said, what mobo, some have codes and lights indicating issues.

Sorry for the late reply, i had it plugged into the wrong socket haha, all working now but i cant seem to connect using my old speedtouch modem, i messaged a guy from idnet today and he told me its likely not supported with windows 7, so i have ordered a netgear router form him which comes prefigured so hopefully i will be up and running within a few days...thanks again

If you use usb that may be the case.

A router will give a much better connection than a modem anyway.

I have ordered a netgear wired router from idnet which comes tomorrow, they say its preconfigured so will i just need to run the disc and i will automatically connect, or will i have to set up passwords and stuff myself, like i say im useless and dreading it, i have had my new pc a week now tomorrow and have still to get to use it ...thanks

If it's been pre-configured for you then you should only have to plug it in and go. If there is a disc supplied I'd ignore it completely. It's never a good idea to install anything that comes with PC hardware because it probably contains out of date drivers and unnecessary bloatware that will just confuse things.

The only thing is if you want to use wifi in which case you might need to set that up. Otherwise it's just a case of plug in and go.

If you encounter a problem, just leave a post. I'm sure someone will be able to talk you though it :)
