Title: Your mobile phone may never be the same again
Post by: Glenn on Nov 30, 2012, 09:15:32
QuoteImagine treating your phone like a piece of paper.

Roll it up. Drop it. Squish it in your backpack. Step on it - without any damage.

Researchers are working on just such handsets - razor-thin, paper-like and bendable.

There have already been prototypes, attracting crowds at gadget shows.

I suspect that quality of display will take a huge leap backwards when these first appear but the technology has multiple uses some of which I'm sure will amaze us in a few years' time.

Tbh in a few years I probably wont really care, gadgets although fun have not really ever improved the quality of my life, if anything they introduce expense and more headaches, I do miss the old simple Nokia mobile that made calls and and sent texts and that was all you needed. Im still waiting to see a phone that really pushes its quad core all the way or at all, its all just marketing gimmicks and one one-upmanship.

I must admit as I get older I seem less likely to buy into cutting edge technology. I'm still more than happy with the iPhone4, it does... did everything I needed until they removed google maps :'( I can't seem me upgrading it until I break it.

I'd only have to forget my phone was in my back pocket, and sit down, to make it that thin!  ;D

I do like the idea but unless they do some miraculous with batteries I don't see it taking off.

Visa are working on putting an LCD display and keypad into credit and debit cards so they can generate codes for online transactions so maybe not far off

I suppose the 'male' version might not be too challenging for battery life. >:D

;D

I don't know though, I get through all of my battery in one day and I hardly ever talk on it!

I agree with Gary. Mobile phones were a great invention for phoning home when your car breaks down on a lonely road. I only use mine when I am away from home. All this texting and taking pictures to me are superfluous. I like to hear a voice when I phone somebody. I see folk texting to say "have a nice day" to friends and it's just cause they are addicted to their mobile phone.
