I know Mitch doesn't like them, but Dell are discounting Latitude models by up to £472 http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/latitude-laptops.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukbsdt1&l=en&s=bsd&~ck=mn#!facets=41105~0~3280672&p=1 These are packaged with Win 7.
An example Dell Latitude E6430 reduced from £1151 to £679 http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/latitude-e6430/pd?oc=l0564309&model_id=latitude-e6430
I'd agree not a bad price.
I already have one - with the discount! Upgraded/customised from the base model with improved process additional graphics module, screen, docking station &c. It will support 4 monitors of around HD resolution.
Build quality looks good and the case is Magnesium alloy.
Is it safe to buy a Dell these days? :P
Which model has the Mag Alloy case?

Doesn't that stuff burn with a ring of fire?

Always been safe to buy one.
The E6430 ... the base certainly is Mag alloy andd it feels looks as though te top is too but I have not had to remove that yet and don't intend to.
Today as part of my move to a new employer (same job, desk etc) I have been given a small E6220 Latitude, that is with an alloy case.
I'll remember that then as a possible Apple Mac alternative. Windows8/Ubuntu etc though for similar security as an Apple. As you could probably get 2 Dells for the price of one Apple. :o :swoon:
I really like my old Latitude D620 which is now 6 years old. It has on numerous trips to Europe, Africa, N America and throughout the UK. Dropped, mishandled, X-ray machines and worse ...
The new E6430 is primarily for my wife to use (for work) - and it is making me jealous (almost).
I just have the McAfee issue on my D620 and Dell XPS to resolve ...
Just cannot afford to change mine at present - the additional software costs will be over £1000 as the versions I am running are not compatible with Win7 or Win8.
Ouch!

Office, Visio and Project - versions that were released under XP will not function correctly (if at all). Project standard - £500, Visio £420, Office £160 ... plus VAT! And I need full versions not the "student" editions.
