Thanks Gary. I've been so busy recently I had totally forgotten about WWDC.

:thumb: iOS 8 looks interesting, although many manufactures seem to be adding health add ons these days though. Looks like a good upgrade, I like the support for predictive text and third party keyboards.
A few useful features, by the look of it, but also quite a few gimmicks, and BlackBerry had the 'QuickType' thing last year.

Hasn't stopped them being dropped by even more companies this year, and tbh its a phone, what more can a phone do that it does not do now... tech can only go so far and how much more do people really need, its like curved Ultry high definition TV's its a gimmick to get people to buy what they don't really need. Personally I wish phone did less and lasted longer on one charge. The best feature my phone has it that I can call people on it ;)
The point is, Apple always seem to be playing catchup. WhatsApp Messenger has been around for years too, and it's only now that Apple are jumping onto the idea.
My son at university tells me WhatsApp is no longer the in thing and nobody uses it anymore, however I've never used it and now it looks like I never will. Phew.
@Gary that's very ageist , likewise I like to make the odd phone call , however for my sons that feature is way down the list of essential Apps.
There was a lot of interesting looking stuff announced yesterday, I just hope my iPhone 4 lasts until the new hardware is released. The home button is starting to require a lot of pressure. It looks very much like the iPhone 6 is going to be styled on the iPad Air. I've yet to see anything other than the cheaper, plastic version but that didn't really float my boat.
If iOS 8 comes out before the new hardware, I'm not sure that I'd upgrade on my 4S. There's nothing that immediately grabs me as essential so far.
I'd upgrade straight away as there's a lot I'm interested, even the health app :o
Yeah, you'll probably find it only works on the 5 and above. ::)
Apple's not quite as bad as Android for OS updates but I reckon you might get one more update on a 4S
I probably wouldn't have room for it. ;D

So no patents on quicktype/gesturetype then? (sneaks off knowing they build better phones and software anyhow... but should stop throwing toys out the pram :P ).
Apple's newly announced health platform HealthKit has been criticised by a firm of the same name, offering similar service.

Although as the article points out right at the end, Healthkit is purely the name given to the group of APIs, rather than to the app itself so I would expect no case to answer as it is two different things.
