I've been waiting for an urgent email all evening and I've just realised the mail server is down. It appears www.idnet.net is also not responding. Could someone verify that it's not just me please.
So I phone OoH support and it comes back up making me look like a right numpty and within a minute of putting the phone down it goes down again ::)
I got emails ok around 11 last night, must of had issues after that.
I was sending some and receiving at 1am last night with no issues
I had emails to an IDNet account at 00:50, and 08:10 this morning. No idea if the service was down, as I was in bed!
Two of my email accounts are saying 'bad username or password". Others are working.
The IDNet home page and customer portal are working for me.
I can access the home page and in fact have changed my passwords as I got the dreaded "exceeded my quota" message, again! Now one of my missing email addresses has recovered but the other still throws up an error. ???
Can you get to it via Webmail?
I tried one email address and it worked on Webmail. Currently both work but on and off, mostly off!!
I think the fact that it works sometimes probably points to a server issue, and not something you can do anything about yourself.
Personally, I would probably forget about it for now, go out and enjoy the sunshine, and check again this evening. :) If it's still playing up tomorrow, phone IDNet.
I'll take the dog for a walk 8-)
;D
I'm starting to think my issues last night were either self inflicted or my own personal outage. I've been reinstalling all our PCs and Laptops and I discovered this morning that I'd set an incorrect password for one of the email addresses I have on my IDNet account. It's likely Outlook was attempting to connect all yesterday evening with the incorrect password so I'm wondering if my IP was getting blocked.
OK How about this then?
I have six email addresses. Two currently throw up the 'bad username or password" error. Both addresses work on Webmail but not on either of my two XP machines running OE!
I have reset both passwords and get a 'green' for password strengths!
However, everything works fine on my Android tablet ??? Is there a message here..............?
Walking the dog did not help
Well, I hesitate to leap to the obvious, but wouldn't that suggest a password issue with OE? Or maybe a certificate problem? The email certificates were changed recently.
But why only two email addresses affected?
Got this now, again :(
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: '*******', Server: 'mail.idnet.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [IN-USE] Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded (mail_max_userip_connections=1)', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
I comply with all the rules in that sticky!!
Oh, and BTW, my Android tablet has now failed me too.
I think you'd better phone IDNet in the morning.
Well, this morning it appears to be working as it should!
I emailed Support last night and they said it was caused by an email scanning feature of an anti-virus program. New one on me that one ;)
Edit: Spoke too soon, gone again, different email addresses this time!
What, your antivirus, or theirs?
Mine apparently! Have now 'phoned Support and they are onto it :D
I have a low opinion of antivirus products, ever since (about 12 years ago) Norton Internet Security screwed up someone's email client because it didn't understand the full SMTP protocol it was intercepting.
I use Avast. However, I think I might have solved the problem.
Support are saying that the cause is multiple attempts to log on to my email accounts from the same IP address. I have recently bought an Android 'phablet' and set up two of my email addresses on that. The two that are causing the problem. The phablet was also set to check for emails every 5 minutes and along with my own PC set to check at the same interval, one can only draw one conclusion!
The problem compounded by the fact that the phablet keeps switching itself on for some yet undetermined reason >:( I suspect a 'battery saving' app I installed!!! With both devices "disabled" all night, the problem has disappeared, so far today :-\

That's probably IDNet's problem, not yours.
However, some Android email clients do regularly leave dangling POP3/IMAP sessions, which won't help at all.

The POP3 protocol specifies that an exclusive lock must be actioned on the mailbox - this means only a single POP3 connection should be allowed.
It is advisable that you use IMAP for any mobile devices and use POP3 on your main computer for downloading a copy of your mails for backup/offline usage.

I will try that suggestion, thanks. Better than having to switch it off! I think I've solved the self-switch-on problem too :)
