Title: Occasional loss of routing to the US
Post by: arturus on Aug 06, 2007, 16:54:52
Hi all,

I have noticed lately that every now and again there is a loss of routing to the US. This usually happens fairly late at night and I notice because I play MMORPGs with my mates over there. When it happens I can access any UK sites no problem but stuff over the pond times out. This happens for a few minutes at a time (maybe 5 or 10) then comes back.

Has anyone else noticed this I wonder?

Cheers

Jeremy

I haven't, but then I'm notorious for just plodding around in here. ;) Have you tried a tracert?

Hi Rik,

I have tried a tracert and it seems to disappear just on the other side of IDNet - I can't remember the name of the infrastructure provider but it definitely wasn't our end.

Cheers

All I can suggest, then, is that you contact support. If you do so by email, then include your tracerts for them to study. You might want to try an alternative DNS, just to eliminate that (TMA is reporting a problem). I normally switch to Open DNS if I feel the need, 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220.

Hi Rik,

I don't think it's a DNS issue - it gets the IP address ok. It's more of a routing issue. Not really a big deal - I have only noticed it a couple of times so I will monitor and pass the info on if it happens again. As I said, I don't think it's an IDNet thing. It seems to be further down the line. Perhaps I have just been unluckly :)

Cheers

Hi Jeremy

I did ask Simon about your problem, but he wasn't aware of any issues and they hadn't had any other reports. If you can keep an eye on it, and let support have details if it occurs again, that would be very helpful. Thanks. :)
