Title: Basic Modem/Router Settings Help
Post by: sparky on Jul 13, 2017, 09:49:01
I am upgrading from IDNET ADSL2 to FTTC. I have an activation date for my FTTC for next week. I have always manually configured my own modem/routers and want to do so again.

I have bought myself a Netgear D7000 and having read through the manual setup I have a couple of questions that I am hoping some one may be able to help me with.

The support section of IDNET shows the VDSL basic settings as:-

Encaps : PPoE
VLAN Tag :101
Authentication : CHAP
DNS : 212.69.36.3 & 212.69.40.3

OK. So the manual settings on the Netgear, do not mention CHAP does that mean it's not required?

Secondly, what is VLAN Tag:  My router settings only have VLANID   is that the same thing? The default appears to be 10,  but then requires a priority setting of 0-7 (default is 0)

Any help much appeciated. Thanks.

Yup, VLANID means the same as VLAN Tag
VLAN priority should be left at 0

No need to worry about CHAP.
