Title: MS fix for broken Windows Update for XP
Post by: Rik on Sep 29, 2007, 10:16:40
Following the recent changes to the Windows Update files, a repair, using an XP CD will leave the machine unable to obtain updates. This is because of registry changes which the repair makes.

The fix is detailed in an MSKB article:

I can see my neighbours doing that Rik  trouble is its not apparent that XP does not get all the patches I think, maybe the best cure would be a fix to the update service, just a hunch though  ;)

I agree. Making the update service incompatible with standard functions like using a repair CD is just plain silly, imo. :(
