Title: Call of Duty 4
Post by: zimmerframe on Nov 09, 2007, 12:21:27
Well..?

Who'se got this/playing it?  I have'nt tried the demo but have the game on order.  I've read very favourable revues of the demo and the trailers lokk fantastic.

A German friend has it already and is raving about it.  How juiced up should I be 'til my copy arrives ? ;)

I got it wednesday -

GO

GET

IT

NOW  :D

I cant stop playing it and the play style varies - from awesome SAS stealthy team missions - to bombing from a plane, to US crazy style invade a county to joint missions. Its awesome (SAS > USMC). There was also a cool mission where you get "ghilly" suits and on an assassination mission. Really tense part where u have to crawl through a field with a whole army walking in a line past around you. Really film like!!! A Halo beater...period.

If only she knew.............

What have you got it on PC or 360?

Either way it is probably the best game i have ever played and i don't say that lightly as there has been some crackers. The single player, although short, is still excellent but where the game really comes into its own is online...............it is sooooooooooooo damn addictive, i went to bed at 2.30am last night  :o i kept saying "one last game then off to bed"  from about midnight onwards ;D

I hope you were using headphones by then!!  ::)

Otherwise you will find (like me ) that World War 4 has broken out, let alone WW 3!!!  :o

Two words;

Bl**dy & Marvellous

Absolutely cracking gameplay and graphics.  This has really been thought through well and what faults there are are very minor.  Oh, and the on-line play is fantastic too :)

have to agree with all. Superb game.

Single player is just amazing. Its the truly cinematic experience you expect from the COD series.

Multiplayer they have got it spot on with playability and fun factor.  This takes me back to the fun had in my first venture to online gaming when Medal of Honour was great. In terms of fun.

Ok so whos playing hardcore mode on Multiplayer or are you all wooses on normal arcade?

I'm still a woose :-[  I havent tried hardcore yet, how does it differ?  I imagine that all the little indicators are off?  If so, I would probably like it.  I am a fan of some of the realism mods that the modders had produced for CoD2

I really like the change they have made to S&D gametype.  Now you have to pick up the bomb and transport it to the bombsite, rather than just turning up at the bombsite where anyone can plant.  This means that with proper team play, you not only have to plant, but also have to protect the bomb carrier and if he is taken down, someone else has to pick up the bomb and plant.

My son tells me to try the Domination gametype too.

Hey Zimmer.

Hardcore mode basically removes everything. Your Hud, Crosshair, ammo count Map in the corner.

Bullets kill you quick. So you have to be on the ball. It takes a little to get used to but we have all been playing it at ZiiP and theres no turning back now.

I like all the gametypes. Historically Ive always been an objective/s&D fan. But Domination is good fan and I partiularly like sabotage as you can get some right intense battles going over the bomb.

We are playing a 32 map mixed mode server. 6 s&d, 6 dom, 6 hq, 6 sab, 5 tdm and 3 Free for all. Variety the spice of life and all that.

You should pop by and try out the hardcore mod. And say hello too. 193.93.46.127:28960

Now  I know that most poeple probably use X-Fire or some other such server/buddy tracker.  This is a useful website though for tracking players or servers.  It works for all Call of Duty servers, (CoD2 & 4).

To find who is playing and where, type a few search letters in the player name box, (can be your clan tag, [C-Ops] for instance ;) ) and hit search.

http://stats.callofduty.com/index.php

Unfortunately, you cant join a server through this utility but its a useful tracker never the less

I played this game, and it is by far the best FPS I've played in years. It was such a refreshing change from your generic first person shooter.

I'm seriously thinking about getting it for the Xbox 360, but I'm not sure if I want to learn to play FPS games on a console. I've barely touched Lost planet, and couldn't stand the chaotic control method in Gears of war.

Post by: zimmerframe on Jan 23, 2008, 12:15:54
You just have to play it on-line Niall :D

Why get it on the X-Box?  Sure, the PC version needs a bit of hardware to fully do it justice but the experience is well worth the expense...

It is an absolutely brilliant game, been through the single player missions and loved it,it is a lot of fun in multiplayer,i have it on pc,i have a nvidia 8600gt card, this game rocks.
But what concerns me is will it go the same way as mohaa with all the cheats and spoil another great game?. ???
Title: Re: Call of Duty 4
Post by: zimmerframe on Jan 24, 2008, 12:30:39
CoD4 uses Punkbuster as its built in anti-cheat program.  This can be defeated by low life scum but it is regularly updated and a Global ban means just that.  The Original MoHAA didnt have built in anticheat and suffered greatly for that.  We used to use a 3rd party A-C call Missionary, ( I think that what it was called, it was a long while ago).  It worked OK and you had to have "pure", ie no mods server.

Its very obviuos when a player is skillful and has practiced their play and knows well all map locations.  Similarly, its usually obvious when a player is cheating too.  I really detest cheaters.  They spoil the game for everyone.  I just cant understand the need to win at all costs.  A good score, well earned is very satisfying.  Similarly, playing against good, well practiced opposition is good too, win or lose.

Avoid servers with Punkbuster off.

Good teams/clans run good cheat free servers so hunt them out and stick with them :)

I'm using an 8800GTS card that I bought a few months ago.  This is the 640Mb version that has now been supersceded by the 512MB 8800GT I think.  At the resolution I play, 1280 X 1024, the native rs of my TFT, it copes easily with all the graphical bells and whistles turned on and looks fantastic.

I've had it and completed it on the PC. I ran it at almost maximum settings with only a slight slowdown in one or two areas. I was really impressed.

Basically I've got a sub for Xbox Live gold, and I have only about 4 months left on it, but I've never played any of my mates online. Mainly because we all play different games. 8 people I know have the Xbox360 and not one of us play the same games together online!

despite Punkbuster hackers and cheats always still get in. But as mentioned good admins can spot a hack. Heres a screenie of one we caught on our server. This guy was caught from simply observing him and instinct that he was not right. Punkbuster was on but didnt catch him. We regularly check our auto PB screenshots to find idiots like this.

We stream our server to Punksbusted which is a 3rd party group who share info on all caught hackers. Therefore baning them from everyones server who stream. The list grows and this means they cant get on any server. S'all good.  ;D

Who is playing Hardcore or softcore mode? I cant stand softcore. Its way too arcady for me and everyone seems to have a bloooming P90.

We dont have PB on our server as its cra ck 3d as i dont think it checks for a valid serial.

But we have a cracking admin team - ive banned at least 8 people.

Might try and get PB on at least one server...aha the ip is

212.69.36.86:28960 - 24 man

212.69.36.85:28960 - 48 man

damm 48 players?  Im not a fan of large numbers on this game. Its too mental and hectic for the map sizes.

Our first server is set to 20. Perfect for most maps I feel.

Problem solved. My mate in work has decided to sell his Xbox360 and games, so I bought COD4 off him for £20 :)

He's worked out that he can sell it and buy a second hand one on ebay, so he makes a little cash. If he wants the game back he said he'll give me the £20 for it. So basically I've got it long enough to finish it and get lot of achievements unlocked. Better and cheaper than a rental :)

I got Mass Effect today aswell. Oh and a Tardis for my desk :D

It has support for modding, so I guess it won't be long before we start seeing some good custom maps ;)

Dragging this old topic back on top, there it belongs :D
It's an amazing and incredibly addictive, I've not played anything else since I got CoD4 for the ps3.
It was a little alien playing with a joypad, but you quickly adjust, and it's gorgeous too.

Yea i find the ps3 version better than 360

but pc still teh best

BTW did i mention the ips i mentioned earlier were IDnet hosted (as is all of Overclock3d content)

We are currently undergoing some changes to the servers (putting PB on both, map changes etc.) and we definately need feedback. We want at least one server ranked but have been considering the big one in half

So any feedback would be appreciated and feel free to join in @ forum.overclock3d.net - we need suggestions :D

Patch 1.6 is now out and can be found at
http://www.gamershell.com/download_27186.shtml

It has 4 new maps:

Chinatown, (a take on the old CoD2 Carentan map)
Creek, an open air area with a forest, river etc
Broadcast, a broadcast studio and surrounding area.  Quite a large map.
Killhouse, similar to the training area in the single player game.  Quite small.

Title: Re: Call of Duty 4
Post by: mrapoc on Jun 15, 2008, 22:38:19
aye - killhouse is small
now just imagine 48 people on that level - yes it did happen - no i did not join in lol

hate too many people
anyone up for a mix match sometime?
