My thought is that whatever it is causing his stale sessions, it's not IDNet. It's possible that BT have been doing some work at his exchange, or just as likely that it is indeed his router causing the problems.

I'm with Lance, James. If the maintenance was causing stale sessions, we'd have heard about it. I only know of one, so unless there's an exchange thought, I'd be looking at the router. Personally, I've never rated D-Link that highly.

Not a big fan of D-Link kit myself.  Indeed, in my previous job I found them to be quite problematic.  Netgear all the way for me!  (And some Belkin Kit is decent)

Well, there are two sides to every coin!  (Or should that be three sides?)

I opted to search the idnet site itself and it suggests that their primary and secondary dns addresses can be used so as to avoid over filling the dns cache and thus avoiding the propensity for creation of stale sessions.

I got the 2 dns addresses from idnet support and the machine is working just fine.

what do you think of this course of action ive taken as it relates to the issue i posted about ?

I just have the router auto-detect the DNS servers, James, it's always worked fine for me. The only time I enter them manually is if I switch to OpenDNS for testing.

I wonder if its just something particular to the dsl 504t router rik. my brother who works in pc hardware told me it aint the greatest router in the world but it gets the basics done. he seemed to think using the idnet dns servers would be a remedy, the guy i spoke to at idnet support said it would be more efficient too.

I've also only ever used the IDNet servers :)
