Title: Profiles
Post by: psp83 on Mar 29, 2008, 13:31:10
Well i had a problem in the house yesterday which caused the router to go down and this dropped my sync down to just over 2000kbps.

This put my profile at 2000.. When i rebooted the router i re-sync'd 4000kbps+ higher..

Isn't the equipment in the exchange meant to change the profile within a few hours if its a big jump in speed?

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  6208 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1824 kbps

Hi Paul

It depends...

If there was a single low-sync event and your connection recovered quickly, then the profile is also meant to recover quickly. However, in my experience, if there are multiple low-syncs or it takes a while before the recovery, then the 6 hour rule seems to go out the door, and it can take the full five days.

Arghhhh!!! I've got some big downloading to do this week for work :(

Do you wreckon support will get BT to nudge it back up?

Also, what will cause slow loading forums? it seems to be only affecting forums as general sites are fine.
idnetters takes a good few secs to load a page, same as my own forum.

It all depends on the percentage increase, Paul (we're into Adaptive Max Logic territory now). I would class this as a large % increase (though there are no set thresholds, AFAIK, and it depends on how busy BT's sytems are) and so it should take significantly less than the 5 days. In my experience, AML hasn't actually done all that much to help, so you may have to wait the full 5 days.

I know this is a bit vague, but BT's systems are very difficult to predict, so your best bet is to just sit tight and not think about it. :)

The slow forum is being looked into. ;)

Normally a ping sends 4 packets, Simon. The -n switch allows you to run a longer test, 10-100 will show up more issues than just 4, or you can use Ping Graph instead...
