Title: Any one tried BitDefender
Post by: Den on May 23, 2008, 20:34:12
Has any one tried BitDefender, I am running Avast Home but Outlook 2007 keeps closing down and I think it's Avast causing it.
BitDefender seems to come out very well in all revues and is cheap to purchase. :D

I've tried the Bit Defender Security Suite, Den, and it's not bad, but I prefer F-Secure.  Would suggest you use the trial version for a while, and see how it goes.  Are you considering the suite or just the stand alone AV?

You might want to have a look at this (http://www.av-comparatives.org/). :)

One thing I was going to mention is, you do get quite a lot of false positives with Bit Defender, which I haven't had with F-Secure, and although a full scan is slower with F-Secure, I do find it less intrusive, and once the initial few firewall pop ups have settled down, it runs practically silently.  Again, this is the full suite, not just the AV component.

A couple of other niggles with the BD Suite, now I come to think of it, are that for some reason, it wouldn't allow the upload part of broadband speed tests to be carried out, and the email scanner was very slow.

Took your advice Simon and down loaded the trial version on to my desk top, problems that I was having with Avast disappeared, I then ran a scan and it found 148 spyware and 1 malware but no virus. So impressed I bought the full package (20% off and extra 30days) and installed it on my new laptop, un-installed AVG 8 and ran a scan and it found 1 virus. So far all seems well on both machines. Thanks for the tip as F-secure was not on my list of ones to try.  ;D :karma: :thnks:

Good stuff, Den. F-Secure isn't really one of the packages that gets mentioned all that often, so it's good to hear. :)

F-Secure can be a challenge to older machines, but for a machine with a reasonable spec, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, and it's cheaper than most other suites too.  ;)
