Hi

I wonder if anyone can help. I am a new subscriber to IDNet and have noticed a recurring problem with my laptop. The issue is that when I first enter a URL in IE and press go, there is a distinct pause of perhaps 10 to 15 seconds before the web page starts to render. Once the page is loaded, most of the rest of the links off the page open pretty rapidly. I am not sure what the issue is. I recently moved house and previously was with Telewest. Telewest was always very rapid. Other info is as follows:-

Netgear DG834GT router
Laptop connected wirelessly to router
Router syncing at 2624 (pretty consistent)
Attenuation 63db (I know - pretty bad)
Noise Margin 6.9db
Distance from exchange - approx 3.5KM

As I said, previously had broadband by cable and so far, I wish I still had!!

Any ideas?

Thanks very much.

Click Start > Run > Cmd

Enter 'nslookup'

you'll get an ip address returned...

Enter 'ping <ip address>'

If it pings, it's ok.  If it times-out then it's falling back to the secondary DNS lookup server, which is causing the delay.  You'll want to reverse the order the DNS servers are hit:

Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > Settings > Dial Up Settings [Properties] > Networking > TCP/IP [Properties]

Change 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' to 'Use the following DNS server addresses'

Enter

212.69.40.3
212.69.36.3

Click [Ok]

Hopefully that will help.
I had the same problem: http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,1083.0.html

I just get the address of my router when I do that.

A number of us are seeing browsing much slower than usual at present.

It may be related to the problem highlighted in Simon(the owner)'s post Here
