Hi all

Does anyone else download things from xbox live via their IDNet connection?
The download speed of anything from Xbox live is absolutely terrible and I'm talking 45 mins+ to get a 100MB file.

Its been like this for ever, but I always thought it was just the Microsoft end being congested.
However, after speaking to loads of other people all downloading the same file at the same time, everyone else got the same 100MB in like 2 minutes.

So for a test, I hooked up my Xbox wirelessly to my neighbours wifi (on BT Infinity) and I downloaded it in about 30 seconds......
As I'm on FTTC from IDNet why should it be so much quicker over my neighbours BT connection using the same bit of string? We live about 50 yards from the street cabinet and 400 yards from the exchange!

I really think there is a problem between IDNet and the xbox live servers.

There's nothing wrong with connection normally (Speedtest below) and my Xbox can stream HD via my LAN and its the same whether I cable it to the router or use Wifi.........

Strangely online gaming seems unaffected so I don't think there's a ping/lag problem, its just downloading files.
Anyone else have any thoughts or problems/success downloading from Xbox live servers?

Thanks
Chris

I've not had any issues, downloaded a 2.2GB file yesterday in about 8 mins.

OK thanks. Maybe its just me then. Or something very strange going on between my router and xbox

Do you have the normal HDD or the flash memory version?
Could it be the router? Sometimes they require port forwarding etc.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

What's your general connection speed like?

@CS

My Xbox is wired & the IP address is in the DMZ in the router.

Have you tried that?

cs

General connection is textbook FTTC, the speed test in the first post is what I get all the time.

I have the normal HDD xbox. I must admit I haven't tried putting it in the DMZ. I have a PS3 as well and that sits in the DMZ and my router only supports 1 DMZ IP.

Try opening all the ports required for Xbox then.. Its the same as DMZ.

Oh and I forgot to say, my internal wired network is also gigabit.

I'm having the same, but now cannot sign in to xbox live at all, getting a problem signing in error.
been on xbox live forums, they admit a routing problem with some isp's like virgin, sky etc. in fact was speaking to a couple of neigbhours, who are also having this issue on both cable and copper.

Microsoft say get your isp to look at it.

If I could find my hdmi cable, I'd check mine! It's been fine for years though :)
