People may not be aware the ClearType tuner has been updated for Vista. http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/tune.aspx

Rik

Useful to know, thanks, Noreen. It's certainly something I recommend using.  :thumb:

It states that clear type is on Vista by default but when I try the tuner it asks me to turn on clear type.

Here do I find the option to turn it on.?

If it's the same as XP, Lona, right-click on an empty area of the desktop, select Properties > Appearance > Effects.

I discovered that this tuner does not work on my laptop if the screen mode is in vista basic. Why? I was updating itunes last night and during the course of this it switched the screen into basic mode and whilst this was happening I thought I'd try the cleartype tuner . It would not work until I rebooted and returned to  my normal vista desktop.

I have the IE tab plugin for FF and unless I switch to IE mode I cannot run the cleartype tuner control

Rik

Are you running it from the Control Panel?

Sorry Rik,Whether cleartype is enabled or disabled in desktop appearances,I cannot run the tuner in FF3 unless I switch it to IE mode. I have no problems running the tuner in IE7 as long as I allow the active x install.

That's what's puzzling me, Steve. I run it from the CP, and it will run for me (FF2) whether the browser is open or not.

I can only presume were talking about two different things one is enabling cleartype within control panel and the other is running the tuner which is browser based. ;D

My tuner runs from CP, Steve, in XP. On/off is via display properties or in My Computer.  ???

Lona, just click in the little box to "turn it on" irrespective of whether it's already "on". ;D As I understand it the Power Toy version is just for XP.

I did that Noreen, so perhaps it was because I was using firefox.  I'll go in again and try it with ie7

It worked this time.  :)

I found this tuner a couple of years ago, and it's very useful indeed. :thumb:

I didn't much like ClearType before I tweaked it.
