Don't use it much, but check it from time to time and just got the message:

Failed:The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'IDNet mail', Server: 'mail.idnet.net.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

No, it seemed a quick outage, <5 minutes.

OTOH, the forum's a bit sluggish here right now.

I think it's the weight of your fat cat. :D

Naah, it's more likely just my weight - the cat merely symbolises that. :)

Er, the POP3 mail server had an 'unscheduled' reboot today. We've given it a good talking to.

That sounds like a good technical reason for migrating to IDNet then.   :o

Thanks for the honest answer Simon, much appreciated.
Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.

Well he wouldn't do much good coming on here and saying nothing was wrong, would he? Even Minusnet would have said that they took the server down to improve our service.   ;D

Care to share the words you used, Simon? :)

Rude words are not allowed here are they. ;D

Rik

Of course not. OTOH, perhaps Simon knows some cabbalistic incantation that we would all find helpful in coaxing recalcitrant hardware back to life. :)

I am trying to send an email to his person and keep getting it bounced back:-

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

      '@@@@@@@@mac.com' on 31/01/2007 08:52
542 5.7.1 Mail not local to IDnet

I have never had this before. Any ideas?

That looks like a phone call to support to me. It suggests all is not well with the SMTP server, though I could be wrong. The other possibility that strikes me is that the mail address is malformed.

Do you have another email account you could try sending from? If not, PM me with your email addy and I'll send you a Google invite.

If it won't send from another server, it must be the address, if it will, it must be either your email client or IDNet's servers.

I think. :)

Thanks Rik.

I will try sending from my G-Mail account - didn't think of that!

Looking through my records, the last time I sent this person an e-mail was with my previous ISP with no problems.

An alternative email account is one of the best diagnostic tools I know. :)

It is a problem with the domain - being sent back by Google as well.
Robin

Rik

I told you it was a good diagnostic. ;)

The other issue I find alternative mail servers handy for is checking when a recipient's POP server is blacklisting an IP or mail server. There was a period last year when it was impossible to send mail to NTL customers from the Nildram mail servers, for example.
