Phone socket problem?

Hi all.

I've got a XF-1e filter, its only 2 weeks old.. My connection has been fine since wednesday and today i've been having speed problems yet again.. I just went to the phone socket in the hall and pushed the plug into the socket hard. checked my router stats and my margin and speed has increased.. The socket in the hall doesnt get touched, theres nothing around it to move it etc.

Question is. does this sound like a fault with the phone socket and is it upto BT to replace it for free? The socket is the old style one that doesnt have a test socket behind the face plate.

I'm getting fed up with my connection problems.. for a few days its fine and then it messes up.

If the socket is the master and it is faulty, then BT have to replace it FOC. Bear in mind, however, that the problem could lay with the plug.

Yeh its the master socket. Its done it on 2 filters now.. Both are brand new.

Also i'm just wondering what could an old phone cause to happen on connections? As i've got everything disconnected from the phone socket, just a filter and lead to my router and i'm going to connect the phone back up in abit. What should i see happen IF the phone is causing problems? (was fine with tiscali)

I'm going through everything again as i know BT will tell IDnet that i need to do the basic checks again (like everytime) and this time, i'm going through it with a fine tooth comb so BT dont come back saying its my end.

If the phone is causing problems, you should see a spike in your noise margin when the phone is in use - just maybe when it's connected if something is badly wrong. However, that's just as likely to indicate a bad filter as bad equipment.

Phone is now connected and margin dropped .4 which is nothing to worry about. The margin doesn't drop when the phone is in use. So it seems to be the master socket causing some of my problems.

The socket doesn't get knocked when hoovering or brushing does it?  Just an idea.

No it doesn't. its protected from knocks. Had the problem before where the plug used to get pulled out.
