what does this mean?

Good morning all...

Can anyone tell me,(silly question)what this means (attachment).I have had this on occasions before,but not quite so many incident's it appears to have gone on all night long.TIA.....Alan

Hi Alan

You appear to have been losing sync. What firmware are you running in the router? If it's 4.01.28, this doesn't log the LOS, just the LCP/CHAP issues. If you're running an earlier version of the firmware, then it might just be an authentication problem, but there are no CHAP errors present to indicate that.

G/m Rik, thanks for reply,I haven't a clue re- software,how do I find out?

The Log has always notified me up until now of any specific loss of sync.(See attach)

Hi Alan

To save yourself doing screenshots, you can always cut/paste from the router log.

The firmware is the top line of the status screen when you log in to the router.

If you have been getting LOS events logged until now, and you haven't updated the router firmware, chances are you are using v 4.01.20. In which case, the lack of the LOS entry suggests a problem with your connection. If things have now stabilised, then keep an eye on it. If they haven't, you need to talk to support as they will be able to see what your line is doing.

Ideally, you should update it to the .20 version, available here, but it's not essential. If the connection remains unstable, it will help support if you can show them your logs, so if you don't already, it would be worth mailing them to yourself - especially if you do decide to update, as this will wipe the logs.

Thanks Rik....I will keep an eye on it.I must admit tho. I havent been aware of any actual LOS even during the peak time,and my noise margin has gone to "0" on occasions :(

Hi Alan

If there's a problem with the DSLAM, for example, your PPP session can drop without a loss of sync. If you're not seeing any LOS, then the issue is out of your hands and will have to be sorted by support, hence you need to preserve your logs.
