My workhorse PC has taken to randomly shutting down output to all my displays and after a couple futile days messing around I feel it's time to consign it to history and build another one. I've always sourced parts that are not quite bleeding edge and that generally gets me around 10 years of high powered computing. In fact aside from the aforementioned problem my current PC is still way faster than the average computer.

Anyway when I started to put together a list components I was a bit taken aback to find a decent graphics card costs around £800. Not that it's a problem, I can't find one in stock anywhere. In fact I can't find a single graphs card of any description that I'd consider buying.

Overclockers is a prime example of how bad the shortage is. If it hasn't got a price it's out of stock: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-components/graphics-cards?p=1

Firstly, I'd never dream of paying £800 just for a graphics card - in fact, that's about what my complete new PC cost earlier this year!

There's been a couple of news stories recently about chip shortages:

Have you tried elsewhere?  I've no idea if it's what you're looking for, but CCL seem to have some in stock:

Thanks, I'll do some research and see if that card fits my spec. I run three 4K monitors in my studio which limits my options but I've never had to spend anything like £800.00 on a single component. I think the chip shortage coupled with a massive hike in processing power has pushed the costs up considerably.

My current PC cost £2,200 ten years ago and I'm hoping not to have to spend any more than that. If it sounds a lot take a look a Overclocker's top end (multi-monitor (not included)) PC @ £14,499.95 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/8pack-polaris-mk2-intel-core-i9-10920x-4.7ghz-extreme-overclocked-pc-fs-002-8p.html

The card at CCL states multiple monitor support for up to three monitors, so that at least ticks one box.

The Overclockers PC would, I expect, be an awesome piece of kit, but I would never use something like that to even a tenth of its potential.  And at the end of the day, you could spend an infinite amount on a machine, and it would still have bloody Windows 10 on it!

My son has been waiting six months for a similarly priced graphics card.  Apparently they are in great demand by people who mine bitcoins.

That does seem to be a major reason for the shortage of the current top end Nvidia cards.
