My noise margin had a Christmas holiday

Last Saturday, mid-morning, my noise margin increased from the target 9db to 11db. Today, at 10:46, it dropped back to 9db again.

The only thing I can think of to explain this is that an industrial unit somewhere shut down for the week and stopped putting RF noise out, but that's just a guess.

Anyone else seen a similar phenomenon?

Hi,
Mine's gone haywire!!!!!

Needless to say I got disconnected and it took 5 mins to reconnect
Sync has gone from 5120 to 4352 :(
Help!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

What have you tried, Gavin. It looks like you're picking up some bad noise - can you idnetify anything in the house which has changed, either electrical items or phone equipment/wiring?

Hi Rik,
We don't have change here!   ::)
I did think it was the vacuum cleaner, but it's no better now it's off!
It is blowing a gale outside, which leaves me to believe the phone cable from the pole to the house may need replacing?
What's that phone number for the noise on the line test?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

You want 17070, then option 2. :) It might be worth trying option 1, ring back, too. If you watch your noise margin while it's ringing, it will give you a little more information to play with (if anything happens).

Hi,
Ringback didn't affect it at all.
There was some noise on the line with option 2.
Now the wind has dropped all is quiet, unfortunately it's knocked my SN Margin upto 18.5  :o
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

If you can still here the noise, or next time you can, Gavin, report it to BT as a voice fault - don't mention ADSL.

The noise margin should recover in time, if you can maintain a stable sync.

Hi,
Rik ... How stable is stable? I mean would this be classed as stable?

Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

It depends on the router, Gavin, but if you have a Netgear, a 3db swing is quite normal.

Hi,
Rik ... No way! Speedtouch 546 here ;)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

It's probably within tolerance still. With a Netgear, I saw a 5-7db swing, with the 2700, I see 1-2db.

Hi,
I can feel a phone call to BT coming on ;)
Are there any "we will charge you" clauses if it's a voice fault?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

No, you're safe with a voice fault. Don't mention anything to do with ADSL though, or they will bounce you off to IDNet.

Hi,
One thing I have noticed is the SN goes up to a steady 18 when the phone is in use, any ideas  ???
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Bat

Hi,
Sync speed is hammering down, now 3904  :o :(
Time for a phone call!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

Increased noise margin could indicate an HR fault, Gavin.
