In the account control panel for mail, there is an option for "set maximum msg size".  When you first view this, the numbers 999999 appear in the Max Size box.  If, in an attempt to reset this you click on the 'set' button, without manually entering any other figures in the box, it sets the max email size to zero.  This behaviour is not obvious.

I did it myself the other night and effectively blocked all emails to an account.  :(    It was a while before I realised the source of the problem.......

Wouldn't it be better if the box displayed a series of bullets which would force you to manually enter a figure before checking the set button?  Perhaps with a note that the default size is XXXX?  (=doing nothing will leave it at the default).  The alterations shouldn't be either difficult or time consuming and might make things a bit more obvious.

Anyone else experienced this, or is it just me?

Just tried that, Tac, and it stayed at 999999 for me. Which browser were you using?

The numbers stayed the same for me, but the script didn't act on them and treated it as a blank box.  Hence the msg size was set to zero.

I did wonder if it was browser specific - I'm using Mac Safari.

Probably best to talk to support, Tac, or I can draw their attention to it if you prefer?

Maybe you could let them know if you don't mind Rik  :)

I've solved the problem of mail getting blocked, but was wondering if my experience was common, browser specific, or me having a (early) senior moment.....

If it is standard behaviour, something on the lines of what I suggested might save someone thinking they are resetting the msg size, when in practice they are resetting to zero and rejecting all msgs.

Sorting it out, did save support from one irate phone call  :)

I've tested my own box, doing what you did, and it definitely remained at 'all the nines' and active, Tac, so it may be something to do with Safari. I'll draw support's attention to the thread.

I've just heard back that it appears to be something to do with Safari, but Martin is going to code a fix to stop it happening.

Thanks for this Rik and to you Martin.  I think it may also affect the other WebKit based Mac browsers. EG. Google's Chrome, and Omni's OmniWeb.  FireFox Mac should be OK as it's based on Gecko, although I've not tried it to see.

Let me know when the fix goes live if you wouldn't mind.   :)

Rik

If I hear, Tac. Knowing Martin, it's probably already in place. ;)

Thanks Rik!  The legendary iDNet(ters) support triumphs once again..... ;D
