hi all new to idnet i have the 24.99 30gb package but dont know how it uses the gb up i dont down load films music or any think like that this is my 2nd day on here and could do with some help any thanks

Why not downgrade to a lower package?

I started on Lite and it suits me fine I dont download films.use You Tube but Lite still allows me enough for my uses,you can always up or downgrade your package,it may be a case of suck it and see

I have a desktop and two lap tops running sometimes and I still stay within the limit.I think films and possibly games may take up bandwidth but a better opinion will be along soon

Examples: browse general websites, email, instant messaging, watching tv (bbc iplayer/itv etc).

Then the 30GB package is overkill. If that's all you're doing - you will likely only push 1-2GB a month. Home Lite at £17.99 would be more than sufficient as this offers 5GB.

If you needs change then you can upgrade with a very, very quick call to IDNet.

hi but my thing that says how much i would use in a month says if i carry on the way i am i will use 16.5gb and only been on 4 hours yesterday and about the same today

Hi, and

Give the Bandwidth Usage guide a few days to get a 'level'. It's often inaccurate during the first few days of use.

As has been said, if you're only surfing, emailing, occasional YouTube, etc, but don't download movies and lots of music, then the Lite (£17.99) package should suit you fine.

hi and thank you all i am just worried about running over but the daily usage bar graph says yesterday i used 0.3 download and today just over 0.3 download so i think i am going to be ok.

As I said, give it a few days, maybe a week, to settle down, then you'll get a better idea of your projected usage.

ok guys many thanks for te warm welcome i will just keep eye on it with only just got broadband here was on dial up before 38kbps cant belive this running 2 laptops on wireless and can get a phone call in all at same time great anit it thanks for all your help

As others have said, general browsing and a bit of youtube uses very little bandwidth. To change, a quick call to support is all that is required and there will be no charge for the change.

The usage also shows your predicted usage based on your current usage. Could you be looking at that?

I agree with everyone else, just keep an eye on things for a week or two and you'll have a much better idea. It is nice to be able to take a phone call while on the net, isn't it.

To make it easy to keep an eye on install the rss feed onto your browser.

My usage takes about a week before it gives a "true" reading/prediction.

although this month its gone haywire as i had a friend who wanted/needed a 2Gb file so my upload stats are way off

I would suggest you decide after a month or two of use to upgrade or downgrade. Thats what I did, to give me a more accurate usage. I had the 24.99 package as well and I kept a daily view on my usage. There Have been a few months where I've been over my limit by about 4-5GB. It was cheaper for me to pay the extra 4 or 5 pounds for being over than to upgrade. I now use more and have since upgraded to home supermax on Idnet.

I used to think that downloads were only what I downloaded eg: a music file or video. I have since found out that everything that comes from the internet to your pc is downloading eg a web page on youtube etc. Uploading is whatever is sent from your pc to the internet. That how it was explained to me.

Emails count as downloads as well, of course, but just to point out, with IDNet, uploads don't count towards your data allowance.

I suspect they are recorded so that IDNet know what traffic levels are like and, if they ever felt the need to change their charging model, the information is already available - but that's just a guess.

For example, if you have a virus or some malware on your local computer it is likely to be doing something like DoS/spamming etc and thus will be maxing or close to maxing your upstream. IDnet will see the constant saturation and perhaps alert you - this is certainly what other ISPs like Zen and Plusnet do.
