Has anyone else got problems. My synce speed had droped to just over 5000KBPS and my speed have been dreadful all afternoon. Off course now my sync has droped my speeds have droped even more. I really am beginning to wonder if its worth paying good money for a decent ISP when my line is so poor.

No,touch wood etc, no problems here at all today..........synch at 448/8096 and speeds downstream at 6355kbps.

A sudden drop in synch could be line/exchange/BT.

No problems here either Synch. speed has been solid 448/7616 ever since I joined IDNet in mid June 2006

see link for current download speed: -

My speeds are normally between 4500 and 6000.

Well I had to contact Orange Broadband Support for my Sister this weekend. After the usual run around and ages on hold the usual encounter with the Indian Call Centre them hanging up on me etc. etc, I finally got through to someone who would accept that there was a sync problem on the line and, presumably bt sorted it out quick as by the following morning the service was up and running again. I'd be prepared to pay the extra couple of pounds a month to have the support there when you really need it.

But when you think of it, it wasn't that long ago that I was paying BT £29.99 a month for a 512K service!

Extracted from Kitz co uk.......................

Sync Speed

Your sync speed is the speed at which you connect (synchronise) to the local exchange at. This speed is negotiated between your router and the DSLAM at the exchange and will be subject to line conditions such as your SNR Margin and line length.

With maxDSL it is quite possible that your sync speed may vary each time you connect. - It is not unusual to get better sync speeds during the early hours of the day/night than in the evening.
Various factors can cause more noise on the line in the evening, which may result in a lower sync speed.

When an End User logs on with maxdsl an "Event" will be sent to the DSLAM. Your modem/router will negotiate with the DSLAM what speed your line can achieve. Details of these events are monitored by the DLM.
Many users may notice a slight increase in the time it takes to sync to the exchange due to this negotiation process.

There is a good chance yes.
My router rebooted for no apparent reason a few days ago and the synch dropped ,restarted it again early the next morning and it was back to normal.
From what I have read and been told ,synch problems are something happening between your modem/router and the exchange.

Once you have a good synch keep the router on 24/7,I am looking at a UPS to keep my router on a steady supply.

Nerval

Mornings - say before 9 am - seem to be best for getting a good sync speed.
Many people's, including mine, always sync a lot lower if you reboot the router in the evening or early part of the night.

Rebooted the router this morning. Sync speed back to normal. Thanks for the help. :)
