I have been a little confused with the issue of a Hub,I was under the impresion that the router did this,but as I look more into this am I correct in thinking if I want to create a home network....sharing printer etc....will I need a hub.looking at the latest diagram (picked up today) I will....am I corrrect in this line of thought.

It wouldbe a hardwired as I prefer this.....might just leave one laptop wireless though but am I thinking right here ?

Whether you need an additional hub/switch would depend on how many devices you want to connect, David. A conventional router is a combined modem and hub. If you need more than four ethernet connections, you would have to connect a switch to the router, and allow the switch to do all the LAN work, eg DHCP. Depending on your needs to network the laptop, ie does it only need a 'net connection or does it need to speak to other machines on your LAN, the process is fairly simple.

In addition if you want to network a USB printer(as most are these days) and not attach it to live computer you'll need a hub with a USB port

The network its self would benefit by  being online for lessons etc. there will be 3 machines,and a printer,so if you could envisage a pc in each room 3.at some time in the day they would be used for eductional purposes so the need to share both data and pictures would be good.

Other times to share the usual music from one pc to the other.Only one needs to be connected online so to speak. if thats clear

I use one of these on my network, David, the router connects to this together with all my PCs. With this particular model your network can operate up to Gigabit speed depending on the speed of your PCs network card.

As most recent mobos include gigabit ethernet, there's a big advantage to be gained, of course.

This looks just the thing Im looking for,the diagram is spot on,so this would be an addition to my existing router and I assume that you can switch it somehow to enable the network ?
Its OK Im just trying to make sense of what Im looking at.

So if I buy this hub no issues with router 2 wire 2700 ?

Generally with the hub/switch everything is automatic ,plug your cables in power it up and off you go.You may need to plug the cable from the 2700HGv into a specific port i.e no 1 otherwise no other issues I can think of.

Yes it's a good piece of kit, David, I've had mine for over 12 months with no problems, you'll be wanting Cat 5 or 6 cable and wall outlets next then.  ;)
