Thinking of migrating to IDnet. Is it wise to do so at this time?

Hi Quandam, long time no see, how are you? :)

I'd say yes. There have been problems, which are fairly well documented here, but things are getting better daily. IDNet currently have more capacity than ever (much more than they actually need), and are ready to launch WBC (ADSL2+) services as exchanges get converted. They are working with anyone afflicted by poor pings times to address the issues, but mine have been normal for some days now, and the last problem which was bugging me, intermittent sluggishness from the forum, was resolved today.

Hi Quandam,for what its worth.I would need to get thrown off IDnet,if you are thinking of migrating you will see how well the issues have been resolved and all the work which I understand is continuing how can you go wrong here ? :thumb:

So nice to see that you are still 'involved' here. You were always the voice of sense and calmness when dealing with IDnet.

Having done the rounds of ISP's I quite like the idea of returning to the fold ( I promise to behave!) but am quite concerned that there have been problems recently. My gut feeling is that IDnet will get it sorted pretty quickly and things will be back to normal.

Do you feel that my gut feeling could be correct?

I think you gut feeling is absolutely right, mate. Like the rest of the staff here (there's a few new faces for you to get used to), I've been in daily touch with Simon throughout the past couple of weeks. Things have gone badly wrong for a variety of reasons, some of which was bad luck, some of which was BT and the rest I'm not talking about. ;)

That said, I know that the entire team have been working seven days a week to normalise things as quickly as possible, and as a customer, I've definitely seen results. Of course, we'd all like things not to have gone wrong in the first place, but at least we know the ins and outs and what's being done to put things right.

:o :o :o   oh oh....do we need to watch out.  ;)

for what its worth Quandam from a 'newbie' here, this is the best ISP Ive been with so far and Ive had a few.Yeah we've had a few problems lately but so does every ISP I dare say, but you will already know this by the sound of it.You can do far worse than IDNet thats for sure.

Have Idnet got any offers on at the moment to new customers?

Not yet, Baz, and while I have no idea, it wouldn't surprise me if there were some once things are stable.

Today my problems have become worse than ever. Low ping times however packet loss and slow downloads....

Scratch that about low ping times. Back up to 140ms.

I can only reiterate what Rik has said.  There have been problems, and lots of them, over the last few weeks, but I think that the storm clouds are lifting, and there is sun on the horizon, except for a few who still seem to be having problems.

IDNet has its problems but I seriously doubt that they are greater than any other ISP.  In fact they are probably fewer.  The current problems are not anything unusual but the difference is that IDNet admit there's a problem and that speaks volumes for me.

Qandam,

Been with IDNET 1 year on Valentines day and it has been a pleasant experience.

After trying larger firms I decided on the smaller ones, but ruled out many as either being too expensive or having ongoing capacity issues. Also I liked 0800 support, 30day contract and the add-ons like web, blog, pic space, dial-up, unlimited email ID's and so on.

IDNET has had some problems, but I have not found them mission critical. Capacity seems not to be an issue. Present issues seem to be a mix of bad luck an unexpected phenomenon. Management attitude is exemplary. They admit problems, take responsibility and some times gracefully, a bit a kicking. They tell us what the problem is and what the fix will be and implement it. That is good enough for me. Would recommend.

I still believe that IDNet are amongst the best non-LLU providers. If you're looking to move, I think they are a good choice. They've been having problems of late, but I'm certain they'll get it sorted. :)

Thanks for all the advice folks. It appears that most feel that things will be righted soon and everything will return to normal, as I have said earlier this is my 'gut' feeling as well.

Your posts have helped greatly, so much so, I have taken the plunge and all being well will go 'live' (once again) with IDnet on Monday 16th. :thumb:

That about sums it up.  You can hop over to TB and in just about any of the ISP forums find complaints about one thing or another.  Although I'm not with iDNet - my sister is, so I know of what I speak - they do, as she attests,  have a very good attitude to customer service.  Despite the bad patch, and Rik must know more of the behind the scenes problems, they do seem to be getting on top of them.

Nothing is perfect and, whether they are the best, depends on your point of view but, in my albeit second hand experience, they are certainly in the top tier. 

One of the ironies of the ISP world is that if you pay top dollar for good customer service you will rarely need it, simply because the money goes into things that matter like capacity and good quality kit. 

[Edit]  I suspect many of the problems attributed to ISPs are the result of the lack of investment by BT.  My own experience is that no matter how good the ISP, if the line you have is c..p, you are always going to struggle.  And, since the LLU operators ultimately depend on a BT line, you will not necessarily get a better experience with them.
