According to El Reg:

QuoteO2 is poised to reduce prices on the iPhone 3G in the UK. It would seem.

According to a report in Mobile Today, the online arm of the UK cellular-industry trade rag Mobile, the iPhone will be free on £35 and £45 per-month plans. Currently, the 16GB version is free on a £75 per month contract and the 8GB version is free on £75 and £45 per-month plans. The new pricing will apparently begin in May.

Mobile Today's sources say that the reason for the price drop is simple: O2 wants to reduce its inventory before new iPhones arrive "in June or, most likely, July."

Anyone interested?

Apple should be updating June/July 2009 ,if it follows the similar timings of the launch date and subsequent update.

Apple are also going to be showing their version 3 software this coming week which any new hardware design is bound to use. The question is do i get my iphone at the end of this month, or do i buy a cheap o2 payg phone, port my number to that and wait for a couple of months for the new iphone?

It's a tough one, Lance. It might be worth waiting now...

Lance

Indeed it might. I think I might just go PAYG for a few months and sit it out. I would hate buying a new phone this/next month, or even getting it free in May (supposedly), knowing that in a month or two there will be a newer version out with new software and potentially significantly different hardward (on the inside anyway).

There is some good coverage of the media demo of the iphone OS 3.0 here for anybody who is interested.

Essentially, it adds several basic features that were expected and will be available in the summer on existing hardware although the existing hardware won't support all the new features. Another way of reading that is that there will be a new version of the iphone hardware too!

Nokia N97 for me possibly, my contracts due for rrenewal soon so I'll just let it tick along and not upgrade and see what the new iphone has over the n97 when that comes out, I'm not in a rush and if you leave your contract as is, you can update at any time anyway.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

The N97 looks good, but I'm also waiting to see what the N86 will be like, with it's 8mp camera.

I like the look of that as well, I'll let others be the beta testers on the products and wait and see, the difference between 8mp and 5mp all depends on the quality of the sensor and lens so time will tell.

I've found the 5mp camera on the N82 to be superior to any of the cameras on the SE phones I've had, so I have hopes for the N86.  That said, a friend has just got a SE C905, and he's chuffed to bits with it.  I've had a bit of a play, and it certainly seems better than many recent SE phones.

I looked at that phone, since I use the video camera its a bit of a odd one that you have to turn the phone around to use the main camera as the video call one as well, then you cant see the person talking to you, sort of defeats the point of having video calling, I looked at the phone, great build quality, but noted that many said the keypad was scratched by the slider  :( I used to love SE phones, maybe they can get it into gear this year and pull out a real show stopper like the P900 and P910i  back in the old days, I miss my old P910i a lot, awful camera but great phone and Interface

Still no flash though Sebby  :( I would like to watch you tube and the bbc news clips that are flash based etc and without that I'm missing out on a lot of the nets rich content, Apple seem to be pushing their Quicktime more which reminds me of MS and how they push their versions of IE and make us view the web they want, if it had MMS and a Flash player and java it would be a truly great machine, I want to view the net and and have mini pc as much as I can, having Shazam as a app is not for me when i can just dial it and it will tell me the same thing, also for me having all my music on it is not a high priority, but the camera quality would be, so its swings and roundabouts, I love the screen the look, the design is flawless on the outside, but I cant truly view the internet in all its glory yet, Hopefully they may surprise me and fill all the holes in and make it a truly great device, but I will wait and see what this year brings. :fingers:

I thought Apple were pushing H264 rather than QT per se.  According to one of the reports I read, a lot of You Tube and BBC stuff is being pushed out in H264 anyway.  On that basis I can't see that you should be missing much.  OTOH perhaps it's me that's missing something....
