I knew the teaching of history has suffered, but everyone should have been taught about Lord Rockingham.

I wasn't a big fan either, although I think I'd have more interest now.

Same here, all we ever seemed to do was timelines of monarchs and battles, and recent history was extremely biased (we won WWII single-handed). I started reading history after leaving school and haven't stopped since.

My attitude to history can be encapsulated in this quotation from "The History Boys":

QuoteWhat is history? Well, it's just one f****** thing after another!

To each his own. I'm more of a "Know from whence you came, in knowing this, you know who you are and where you are going" type. :)

You won't perhaps then appreciate Mrs Lintott's comment in the same film:

QuoteHistory is a commentary on the various and continuing incapabilities of men. What is history? History is women following behind with the bucket.
;)

Oh, I do. Just as I believe that history is written by the victors. We have to glean the information from a variety of sources, not just the one official source.

I'll certainly buy into that process. I find it hard to make decisions without looking at all the pros and cons.

Rik

By which time I'm usually too exhausted to make the decision. ;)
