For weeks (well, since I installed the TVPack or whatever it's called for Windows Media Centre so that it would recognise the TV card AND the FM radio) I've been experiencing problems with all audio and video apps, causing my mouse to stutter, needing to triple (at least) click everything to get a response etc. In short, in made my PC a chore.

Now this is nothing to do with power, Athlon 6400 dual core processor, Creative X-Fi Audi sound card, ATI HD4670 1 Gig gfx card, 4 Gig ram etc. so I started hunting. After pretty much killing WMC (disabled all services, stopped the ehTray thing starting etc) which I was convinced was the problem, it didn't stop.

After reinstalling a variety of drivers, I finally found the culprit. And it's the Creative drivers. More specifically, enabling X-Fi CMSS-3D (possibly only surround mound - widening stereo separation may be fine).

So if anyone has a similar problem with a Creative X-Fi card, give it a try.

Have I lost my way?
