Down stream noise margin down to 1

Have just checked my stats. My downstream noise margin has dropped to 1. Is this normal ?

Happens to me all the time. I guess it depends on your line length and amount of noise. My router will hang on to the line at that level, but this also varies router to router.

As Jupiter says, Bill, noise margins do drop - usually in the evening, but sometimes in the day. My Netgear will reach -2db before it drops the line, though it displays that as a massive +ve figure.

If you start getting lots of re-sync events, ask CS to get your target noise margin raised by 3db. Once I'd done that, I lost a little speed, but I got a stable line.

Otherwise, try and enjoy using the connection and don't worry about the stats too much, unless you notice an impact.

I was once on holiday in Scotland when there came a nasty knocking sound from under the bonnet. An AA patrol happened to be passing, so I flagged it down. He, like me, thought it was the big end.

I pulled into a garage just down the road to see if they could help, the guy lifted the bonnet, had a listen, then took the fan belt off. Knocking stopped. "It's your alternator," he said. He couldn't understand why I was so happy.

Oh, I know I'm not a mechanic, Lance (though those were the days when you could service your car with a set of spanners, a feeler gauge and a couple of screwdrivers), but the symptoms were very indicative of a big end problem - the car's, not mine.

As to your second point, I'm now with the RAC.
