There are 20 nodes around the country, Baz, which serve as concentration points for the network. I happen to have one here in MK, but for most people, their node will be some way off. The node acts as a 'distributor' between the backbone of the network and local exchanges. Unfortunately, if one is disrupted, it affects a large number of people.

dont know if it helps Rik but managed to get a BT test done after about 10+ mins

Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4 kbps

This test was not conclusive and further testing is required.

Please wait whilst you are redirected to undertake a second test.

tried the second test but it didn't work never had it ask me to try another test before  :dunno: said to change some login settings but it didn't work

I had the almost the same problem on ZEN, except I had 0 kbps throughput, a little while ago before migrating to O2 very briefly (1 day) and then here the day after. The fault was eventually found to be an exchange fault, but by the time ZEN had informed me that BT had found the problem, it was too late to cancel the migration to O2.

I'm gw6, and my connection has gone to pot :bawl:  I live in the Borders, near Langholm. I can't even do a speed test it's that slow. :dunno:
I'll give support a bell tomorrow. :thumb:

I have just done a speedtest as I am on gw6 also and my speed is down by 2/3 thirds as well. I have been getting in excess of 6 Mbps 24/7 with a ping of 42.

Let support know, Colin, the fault is meant to be clear (have you done a BT test to check your profile?).

I have just done a BT speedtest which is shown below, which seems not quite as bad as shown on the speedtest.net figures. So I will leave it for awhile and monitor the situation.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4458 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.

If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.

Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.

The profile is fine, so have a word with support.

Speed is slow again. :bawl:  It's been OK since the last outage.  Managed a couple of tests, oh the pain. :eek4:
My usual speed is about 4meg down, 380 up, and a ping of 62.

Done

Thanks

Colin

Mine is now fixed, James switched me to GW5 from GW6 and everything is back to normal with even a slightly lower ping (39 was 41) that I originally had).
Happy again  :thumb:

Same here, Colin. :)

Happy bunny again   A big thank you to James, you are the man  and Rik for pointing me in the right direction :thumb: both of you deserve a  :karma:
Mick

Rik

Thanks, Mick. I was hit badly today, so had a word with James. He had tried the switch for Colin (wecpcs) with good results, so moved me and it was an instant improvement. You and Mark have had the same results, so IDNet are now investigating why we appear to have suffered from contention when the network was not showing any.

Afraid to say that I am being hit by extremely slow speeds. My speeds are down to around 1M having regularly got beween 6 & 7 constantly. Just tried a couple of speed tests and both got 'stuck' at 1M :eek4: and wouldn't complete. There is something that is not quite right. I am also on gw6 :dunno:

Phoned (answered immediately), tested line which looked good and was changed to gw5 with immediate improvement, back to 6.5M straight away. Hope it stays like that :fingers:

It's nice when the cure is so simple, Q, isn't it. :)

Funny old game! :lala:

It's peculiar that my general pings have halved since being placed on gw5?? :rub:

Rik

Sure sign of congestion, Q.

Is that congestion on gw6 or the local exchange? Or both? :dunno:
