Hello all. Experiencing very slow speeds at the moment and have been for the last 3 or 4 days. I'm in northern ireland in the bangor area, just wondering if anyone knows of any technical issues in this part of the country. By the way great forum very informative.

Glen, give IDNet a call, there has been a problem with the GW6 central which BT are looking in to, people that have a very low through put are being moved to another central

Hi Glen and welcome to the forum. :welc: :karma:

There is a known issue if your login ends in .gw6. If that's the case, call the out of hours support number, 01462 476556. Someone will get back to you - you need to be at your computer when they call, the fix involves changing the login in your router.

Thanks for the kind comments, they are much appreciated.  :)

Ninny

I phoned the number at 5pm and left a message, not heard anything back as of yet. Was getting 0.01 mbs on speedtest.net and/or no ping return. I thought BT had reduced my IP profile to minimum again but it looks like it's this gw6 problem, so hopefully will be more temporary!

Rik

Someone will get back to you, though it may be a bit slower at this time of night.

On the plus side my connection hasn't dropped so much today. Unlike my jaw when I ran the speedtest this morning...

Rik

I know the feeling, it happened to me on Wednesday, and I've never seen a speed drop since I joined...

DSL 4 seems to be fine (for the moment).

Rik

It should do, it's on the same central as gw5. It's just part of gw6 which is acting up...

Just got a call from Simon and been re-routed to gw5 and all is well again. Thanks!

Simon

Glad to hear it, Ninny!  :)

I'm also on GW6 and have been experiencing speed issues over the last few days. I also play on XBox live and the lag has made it unplayable. Can anyone explain why there always seems to be problems with GW6? I've left a message on the out of office support number so will see if anyone gets back to me. I pay nearly £30 per month.

My best guess is that a segment of the gw6 central is failing, John, with dire results for those on it. It doesn't show on IDNet's monitoring, so BT are investigating. The reason I say this is that not everyone on GW6 has been affected and a move to gw5 has generally cured any issues. I'd suggest emailing support, they are picking up speed issues from emails.

GW6 here too. I did notice things had slowed down but as an ex Sky Broadband customer you get used to whittling something out of wood during this time.

Any idea if the problem with GW6 will sort itself out? I don't like to bother anyone when the speeds i usually get are so constant and unchanging......i'm just more than grateful for what i get after what i was used to before!!

Rik

It should get sorted when BT find the fault, but if it's affecting you, drop support an email and they can give you a quick fix. :)

It actually doesn't bother me at the moment, my speed is 100% faster than my previous ISP, i'm grateful if i can download an email any time i want or watch a video clip.

And thanks to the gentleman who phoned me from IDNET. I did not expect it and was over-whelmed that any company did that anymore, especially at 8.30pm.

Of course my router's username/password failed the authentification stage, i haven't changed it as i'm not techy minded, so the IDNET guy must think i'm three sheets to the wind.

But, as i said, i'm so happy getting the speeds i do. One very satisfied customer.

Rik

That would have been Simon. :) So where are you on the router front, did you manage to change it, or did they move you back to gw6?

Hi Rik, how are you?

The IDNET gentleman, Simon, said if i was unhappy then give them a ring and perhaps they could sort something out regarding not having the correct router user/pass. As far as i know i'm still on GW6. For me just being able to enjoy the speeds i do is great for me. If my speed suddenly drops alarmingly then i will ring them, right now things are fantastic.

And i've never used the word 'fantastic' in regard to an ISP before, that tells you how happy i am.

Remind me what router you are using would you?

Hi Rik

It's a NETGEAR DG834 v4.

It's white and clashes beautifully with my black LCD screen.
