Will do. The best time to test for problems though is mid afternoon onwards. This is when the worst slowdowns occur. I assume James's e-mail is james@etc etc. If not, please PM me same. Thanks.

There's no stopping you, Glenn, now you're through the 6000!  ;D

Congrats by the way.

Gosh darn, wish I wasn't so complacent.

My throughput is normally 5Mb less than my profile during the day but  is still fast and always picks up in the evening.  Tonight though, it's been consistently appalling.

Your DSL connection rate: 15989 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1120 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 14000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1816 kbps

Managed 196kbps throughput on a Namesco test earlier.

Should've pulled my finger out sooner.

Poo!

I would still send that in to support.

Done.

I'm in a state of bewilderment because it's never been this bad since I've been with IDNet.

Hey ho...

Lance

It's a problem being esculated within BT so hopefully a solution will come soon.

Are BT playing silly beggars and shifting the goalposts with regard to "...your throughput is consistently 4-5Mbps below your profile"...?

On Thursday I got this:

Your DSL connection rate: 15989 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1120 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 14000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1816 kbps

About an hour ago I got this:

Your DSL connection rate: 15989 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1116 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 13000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6370

Cheeky sods have shaved 1000kbps off my profile with virtually identical sync speeds and a higher throughput.  Also, yesterday I kept alternating between "Test error" and "You need to wait three hours to do another test".

Rik

14000 is the profile for the sync speed, Drummer, so unless you've had a lower speed re-sync, I can't explain it.

Gah!  I did drop 81kb below the threshold after an evening reboot but regained my normal sync after rebooting next morning.

I'll check the thresholds before doing a BT speedtest in future. :rant2:

BT are definitely 'aving a larf,

Your DSL connection rate: 15989 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1116 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 13000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 11432 kbps

Router's been connected without interruption since Friday, pings are in the region of 16ms and throughput is gradually getting better.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if BT has now arbitrarily introduced upstream sync into the equation as I've now lost 1Mb from my profile for no obvious reason.

Only a cynic would suggest this was related to the yardstick of throughput being 4-5Mbps below profile before BT considers it a problem...

If I had that line I would be very happy indeed!

I'm very happy with my line and I'm not actually talking about that, just drawing attention to what looks suspiciously like BT taking the mick with its profiling software.

In all the years I've been on IPStream, the BT speedtester has always worked without fail but since my throughput went a bit mental, I'm now frequently getting "test" and "busy" errors, although I confess to not being that diligent with running speedtests.

For now at least, I'm giving IDNet the benefit of the doubt because an innate suspicion of monopolies leads me to believe BT is the cause of the ludicrously low throughput I (and others) keep seeing on a regular basis.  On Max, I rarely dropped below 6Mb throughput but usually got 7Mb, even in peak periods.

The pic below is the test I managed to run while typing this post.  It's very frustrating, to say the least, when you have a decent line with decent stats (and my profile is still 1Mb lower than it should be).

Slow throughput on WBC is being investigated by the BT Operations Team (shame they're not special ops ;D), so we hope to hear more soon.

Best of luck.  ::)

This problem has been very widely signalled, with no solution in sight.

For many months now I've been seeing comments from ISPs and users about this problem.

There was at least one ISP IIRC that would not roll out WBC because of poor throughput.

Still, someone's got to make a breakthrough, so why not IDNet?  ;)

Whilst I'm no expert, I can say that in my own case it looks suspiciously like exchange congestion, insofar as speeds are sort of ok except during the late afternoon and evening. At 1.30 in the morning the line goes like a bullet. Perhaps a controller at BT Central releases the brake.  ;)

Personally I'm not too fussed about the reason as long as it gets fixed, and the sooner the better, which I know is the intent of this exercise.
