My throughput moan

This is really pissing me off. I've just come back from a weekend away and wanted to watch the F1 race on iPlayer but my connection with ADSL2+ is so cr*p that it's constantly buffering. I can't watch it at all..

I don't do the downloading with the P2P stuff. I just wanted to watch it. I think I'll have to go back to ADSL Max. Will ask about it.

You don't need to do the P2P stuff. Go to the iPlayer page for the programme, and underneath the "download" button is another: "more downloads". Download and save the Windows Media Player version and watch that. It's delivered direct, not through P2P. The wmv files only last for 7 days though, I think, not 30.

Unfortunately, Ann, that may not be a solution as what BT are doing with WBC to Max regrades (or should that be degrades?) is to limit your connection to 8Mb, but it remains ADSL2+.

I can't download anything unless I want to be online for a fortnight waiting..

Oh well. It's like being back with dial up and I guess I survived that so I guess I'll get used to it all over again.

Right so then I need to think if I want to pay 25 quid for a service that I can get just the same from TalkTalk for 7 quid or whatever it is now. Really it's a no brainer so I shall be looking around.

My understanding of Iplayer is that is you use the newer desktop manager (?) then it is direct file transfer rather than p2p.

I would say, at this current time, that TalkTalk's LLU service is better than any ISP's selling BT's WBC product. Their customer service, however, will certainly not be. You raise an interesting point about price - is it worth paying a premium anymore?
