1&1 question

I do like this but,there is always a but isnt there.I have searched but cant find a setting which deletes the read messages in baulk .is there a feature for this .....?

I presume you are talking about webmail? What client do they use for there email service?

Somewhere in you control panel I would think, but I don't use 1&1 mail

I have been in the control and cant see anything.its just a pain to delete one by one perhaps thats how they got the name ?

I use Outlook to access all mail, 1&1, IDNet, Google etc. Just set up each account to use the POP3 servers (plus authenticated SMTP). You can use Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc. Whichever one suits you. The mail is then automatically removed from the mail servers and stored on your computer.

I tried that it was a nightmare  ;D it just would not accept the SMTP...

I think Ray posted it once and I thought I had cracked it but it proved wrong and I could not find the post which covered how to set it up properly using the outlook as the incoming and the 1&1 as the outgoing ,Is this correct ?


No I just remember I used Thunderbird or tried to but made a dogs dinner of it as usual in the end took Thunderbird off which was a shame as I liked the look of it

The setup is:

Username: full email address (before and after @)
Password: Whatever you've set
Incoming server: pop.1and1.co.uk
Outgoing server: auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk

In advanced settings (or whatever it's called in TBird):

Outgoing server is on port 587 and does not use SSL.

Rik, why wouldn't he use IDNet's SMTP server?  I used to use it for all my mail.

There is no email supplied with Be but I still use their SMTP server.

Log in to your webmail 2.0 account, in the pane on the left, called "Folders", right click on "inbox" and choose "empty folder". That should do it.

I haven't tried because I don't want to empty it, just yet.  ;)

As suggested, you should use an email client and download to your PC, you can leave them on the server as well for access from the web. I use Thunderbird 3 "shredder" , excellent programme.

I have downloaded TB and followed the instruction but it just states connection refused or failed to connect so will try this  :fingers:

It sounds like you haven't set it up properly, David, particularly the user name and password.

Yes just checking username and password looks that way as it is refusing to connect which is hopeful....well to me anyway  ;)

If it's rejecting at the login point, David, it's most likely to be a username/password issue, but it would pay to double-check the servers are entered correctly. Unfortunately, we can't check from here for you. :(
