Having used one a bit now Simon as a friend lent me his mac book, its pretty easy, but there will be a learning curve, but its worth it.

Do any of you mac users have apperture? I was just nosing around some forums when it occurred to me that I haven't seen many people mention it for a while. Has the mac got a newer, better photo editor now, or are people using photoshop for macs now?

I am trying to get to grips with Aperture 2 but I think it's probably intended for the professional taking masses of photos. So far I managed very quickly to sort and stack the input but not got round yet to editing the RAW data.I like the fact you don't work with the master version and any changes are kept as a small data file which is obviously associated with the original version. There are plenty of plug-ins but they're very expensive and I suspect for my needs I would be happy with Photoshop Elements but I will plod on this winter and get through the tutorial book.

I can't help you there. I don't do anything in the way of photo editting (other than a few simple things on iPhoto).

It's an article about award-winning nature photographer Andy Rouse.

He mentions some of the software he uses for RAW processing. You'll also find he's written a book on basic RAW image processing. He also writes an informative newsletter.

I appreciate you were enquiring wrt Mac, but you may still find the information useful.

Hi everyone

just bought Photoshop Elements 6 with a free upgrade to Version 8, I believe version 8 to is better as Adobe have used interfaces from CS3/4, 6 interface is a tad dark for my tastes.

Both are full retail boxed items cost just over £45 with carriage, a bargain I thought.

Have tried Aperture 2 on trial but found it hard to get my head around it, I think it is for professionals doing batch processing on a lot more photo's than I would take.

Photoshop Elements 8 should be here in about a week.

Thanks Bob,looks like Rawshooter disappeared when Adobe bought the company,which leaves Adobe Lightroom2 not cheap either, certainly Aperture will do the import and initial edit its just a matter of getting one's workflow organised

The photoshop elements v8 looks the next step for specific photo edits without having to spend a fortune.

I'm using Elements 8 on my PC, and it's very good. It's got three settings for editing. Edit full, edit quick and edit guided. I use the guided one more often that not as it's so damn simple, even a small child could use it. When you've basically got your photo right in camera there's not much you need to do so it's perfect.

I highly recommend it.

It is more for workflow management than a replacement for Photoshop, although you can link it to PS for photo editing.  That said there are a number of enhancement tweaks in it so unless you want to do masking and that kind of thing you may find you don't, or rarely, need PS.

Guy Cowan is an expert on Aperture and sometimes does free seminars at Calumet.  His Website  is down at present but it might be worth a try later on.  Or you could try Calumet's site - they have branches in most major cities.

Received my Magic Mouse this evening, first impressions are it is very good.

Much less bulky in the hand than the mighty mouse, the scrolling, right click and forward/backward two finger swipes work well. Overall pleased, except for the price

Up and running, and its great, will take a while to get used to but I must admit I love my new Mac    the 21.5" feels huge, god knows what the 27"
