Don't plan any serious internet use on Saturday evening...

The BBC reports that:

QuoteEngland's World Cup qualifier in Ukraine on Saturday will be shown exclusively live to subscribers on the internet who will pay at least £4.99.

All previously broadcast England matches have been available on TV.

Kentaro - an international agency appointed by the Ukrainian Football Federation - originally sold the UK rights for the game to Setanta.

But after the pay-TV firm collapsed, digital sport specialist Perform was appointed to stream the match online.

England have already qualified for the 2010 World Cup, winning all eight of their group matches.

It is understood none of the traditional broadcasters were willing to pay the asking price to screen the game, which kicks off at 1715 BST.

If sufficient people decide to watch, I suspect there will be bandwidth implications for all ISPs.

I'd prefer to watch on the tv or socialising at the bar with a few mates. I couldn't see 10 people crowding round a monitor to watch a football match

I wonder what the  download size will be for the whole match?

I used to like it, but it doesn't do much for me now, since it sold it's soul to the likes of Murdoch and the money men.  :shake:

That was Ray. ;) Back in the 70s, I quite enjoyed football, but then I became enlightened and moved over to rugby. :)

I wonder what turns us into sports or non sports fans/followers ?

He's a bit confused today, Rik, think he must have forgotten to take his tablets this morning, ;D I quite enjoyed football during the 60/70s but lost interest in the early 80s.  ;)

I don't know, David. It's like comedy, it's a very personal thing. I think there's too much money in football, and with that comes the politics and prima donnas, a bit like Formula 1 I suppose.

Same here, though I didn't have a lot of time for it in the 60s, testosterone was my primary concern back then.

Dopamine

I don't watch football, but out of interest I just visited the subscription site and viewed their demo video. Even choosing their high quality option, the quality at full screen is dire; pixelated and grainy. If that's their idea of high quality, I dread to think how many complaints there will be.

Ray

The quality's rubbish, I wouldn't be watching it even if I was interested..  :thumbd:
